The full name of Juancho Hernangomez is Juan Alberto Juancho Hernangomez Geuer. He is a Spanish professional basketball player playing in the NBA. He was born on September 28, 1995, in a family of basketball players in Madrid, Spain. Juancho started his professional basketball career in 2012 when he formed his first professional contract with CB Estudiantes. He entered the NBA in 2016 after having an agreement with the Denver Nuggets. Juancho Hernangomez shifted through several NBA franchises and currently, he is playing for the Toronto Raptors. In 2016, he won the ACB Best Yong Player Award.

Juancho Hernangomez was born to a Spanish family where all members are professional basketball players. He was born on September 28, 1995, in Madrid, Spain. His mother (Margarita Geuer) and father (Guillermo Hernangomez Heredero) are former professional basketball players. They have played for their respective national teams. Additionally, his brother Willy Hernangomez, as well as his sister Andrea Hernangomez, are also professional basketballers. They are currently playing for the New Orleans Pelicans and Estudiantes, respectively.

Juancho grew up in Madrid watching his parents play basketball. He also chose to take basketball as a profession. He played for his school team till 2007 before joining a basketball club named CB Las Rozas. Juancho played for this club for two years. Furthermore, he moved to join a youth squad of Real Madrid and later shifted to the famous club named Club Baloncesto Majadahonda.

Before Entering the NBA


Juancho Hernangomez also played for his country’s junior and senior basketball teams. He gained the opportunity to compete with the Spain national under-18 basketball team at the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship in 2013. This championship was organized in Latvia. Later, Hernangomez joined the under-20 team and played for the next two years. He participated in the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. Meanwhile, Juancho Hernangomez also helped the senior Spain national basketball team in their practice sessions for the EuroBasket 2015.


After attending the junior basketball team, Hernangomez was successfully selected for Spain’s senior national basketball team. He played his debut game at the EuroBasket 2017. Hernangomez helped his team to earn a bronze medal after occupying third place in the tournament. He averaged 8.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 19.7 minutes per game. Juancho was again successful in attaining his position in the Spain national team’s roster in June 2018.


Denver Nuggets

Juancho Hernangomez’s career took a massive leap on April 26, 2016, when he was named to the list of international early-entry candidates. This list was created for the 2016 NBA draft. The NBA franchise Denver Nuggets selected Hernangomez as the 15th overall pick. He agreed to a rookie contract with the Nuggets on August 9, 2016. Juancho advanced to the Sioux Falls Skyforce under the NBA Development League. He appeared in a single game for Skyforce. However, the Denver Nuggets recalled Hernangomez three days later.


Hernangomez earned a season-high 27 points in a 132-110 victory against the Golden State Warriors on February 13, 2017. He also scored 6 three-pointers against his opponent to help his team to tie an NBA record with 24 three-pointers. Meanwhile, Juancho was identified with mononucleosis in the 2017-18 season and played only 25 games.


Minnesota Timberwolves


After serving the Nuggets for almost 4 years, Juancho Hernangomez was then moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves on February 5, 2020. The professional player re-signed his three-year agreement with the franchise on November 27, 2020. Well, the 2020-21 season proved to be full of discomforts and plights. He contracted the coronavirus and lost his place in the starting lineup. Also, Juancho Hernangomez experienced a shoulder injury in an exhibition match.


Boston Celtics


Juancho Hernangomez along with Jarrett Culver traded to the Memphis Grizzles on August 25, 2021. They entered the squad in exchange for Patrick Beverley. However, the professional basketball player was traded to the Boston Celtics on September 15 in exchange for Carsen Edwards and Kris Dunn.


San Antonio Spurs


San Antonio Spurs was the next destination for Juancho Hernangomez to earn a name in the National Basketball Association. He approached the franchise on January 19, 2022, in a three-team deal.


Utah Jazz


Juancho Hernangomez later moved to the Utah Jazz on February 9, 2022. This shift was done in a three-team trade to make the required adjustments. The Jazz waived Hernangomez on June 30, however.


Toronto Raptors


Furthermore, Juancho Hernangomez joined the Toronto Raptors and he is currently playing with the same team. He was successful in making a one-year contract with the NBA franchise.
