Lenny Rodrigues: A Brief Biography

Lenny Rodrigues was born on 10th May 1987 in Verna, Goa. He is an professional Indian footballer who currently plays for FC Goa in the Indian Super League as a Midfielder.


His forte is his range of passing skills of both the short and long varieties, which help make a seamless transition from defence to attack. His deft tackling and interceptions also help nip many an opposition attack in the bud.


Background


Starting off as a striker, Lenny turned into professional football player at the age of 17 when he played for Fransa-Pax, a club who’s dissolving led Rodrigues to train with Salgaocar for a year and a half.


In the 2008-09 season, he joined the club, Churchill Brothers, a club he supported as a boy, as an under-20 player. He provided the backbone to Churchill Brothers which went on a title-collecting spree during the lanky defensive midfielder's six-year stint at the club.


Lenny’s contract extension with Pune City took place on 20th March 2015 and 3 months later, Mohun Bagan confirmed the signing of Lenny Rodrigues on loan from Pune City for the 2015-16 I-League season.


Rodrigues signed for Bengaluru FC, the reigning I-League champions, on loan from Pune City on 15th December 2016.


Debut


On 23 February 2012, Lenny made his senior international debut against Oman for India and then appeared 22 times for the national side, but unfortunately was unable to score a goal. However, being a central midfielder, his midfielding skills impressed everyone and is expected to perform more better in the near future.


Rise to Glory


Rodrigues came into prominence while playing for Churchill brothers impressing the national selectors with his football skills and eventually being included in the national side. For the senior national team, Lenny Rodrigues has established himself as the pivot.


Club Career


He joined Mohun Bagan at the start of the 2015/16 Hero I-League campaign and has been a part of FC Pune City in each of past three seasons of Hero ISL.


He has switched to Bengaluru FC for the upcoming campaign and will look to play a key role for the ISL debutants. He has a good Indian taste and has managed to score a goal till now for Bengaluru FC.


In 41 appearances, the 30-year midfielder has managed to score 2 goals and provide one assist in his ISL career.

Lenny has scored 10 goals in his senior club career of which 5 goals were scored for his favourite boyhood club, Churchill Brothers. Being an important and experienced player, he is expected to fulfill expectations of his coach and fans.
