Mandar Rao Desai: A Brief Biography

Mandar Rao Desai, an Indian footballer was born on 18th March, 1992 in Mapusa, Goa. He is a left footed player who plays as a left-winger. He plays for FC Goa in the Indian Super League.


Background


Mandar began his professional career in 2013-14 season when he joined Dempo in the I league. He made his debut against Shillong Lajong in September 2013 in which Dempo lost 0-3.


He made 6 appearances for Dempo that season before moving to FC Goa in the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League. He made 11 appearances for Goa that season and failed to score.


Mandar then moved to Dempo for the 2014-15 season and made 15 appearances in the league where Dempo got relegated to the 2nd division of the I League. He then moved to FC Goa again for the 2nd Indian Super League season where he made 15 appearances and scored 3 goals.


He scored his first goal in the very first match of the season against Delhi Dynamos in a 2-0 win. He impressed everyone with his dribbling and crossing skills.


In the 2015-16 season, Mandar played 10 matches and scored 3 goals to his name. Dempo won the 2nd division of the I league.


In 2016 Mandar joined FC Goa on a permanent deal from Dempo FC.


Debut


Mandar made his U20 appearance for Goa-India during the 2014 Lusophony Games where he captained 4 games and scored 1 goal. India beat Mozambique in the final.


Mandar made his U23 debut for India against UAE in the 2014 Asian Games.


Low Points


Mandar has not performed up to his potential and he is still a second choice player and he needs to perform exceptionally well in order to be considered to the National team selection.


Club Career


Mandar started his professional career at Dempo FC during the 2013 season and moved to FC Goa on loan for the 2014 Indian Super League. Mandar played the 2015 and 2016 season with Dempo before moving to FC Goa on a permanent deal in 2016.


Captaincy


Mandar captained Indian U20 team during the 2014 Lusophonia Games where India clinched gold beating Mozambique in the final.
