Miranda: A Brief Biography

Miranda Biography


João Miranda de Souza Filho is a professional footballer who plays for Italian club Internazionale and the Brazilian national team.


He was born in the city of Paranavaí, Brazil on 7 September 1984.


Miranda has also played for Atlético Madrid, having won a Europa League and La Liga title with the Spanish club.


Debut


Miranda’s debut for Brazil was in a friendly against Algeria in 2007, after coming on as a substitute.


Miranda made his first competitive appearance for Brazil in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Peru in 2009.


He began is club career with Coritiba’s senior team in the year 2004. He also part of the youth team of Coritiba. He scored 6 goals in 89 appearances as a centre back.


Rise to Glory


Miranda’s association with Atlético Madrid has been exemplary.


The Brazilian defender scored his first goal against Granada CF and the club received a 2-0 victory.


In the Copa del Rey final, Miranda scored a winning header for Atlético in a 2–1 victory over city rivals Real Madrid.


Miranda aided Atlético Madrid to wrap up their first league title in 17 years.


He was nominated in 2014 as the best defender in La Liga, alongside his teammate Filipe Luís and Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos.


Club Career


Miranda was part of the youth team for Coritiba, and later, he became a part of the senior team as well.


In 2005, a French football club, Sochaux had signed up a contract with himself, but unfortunately, he couldn’t reside in France and moved back to his homeland.


After coming back, he became part of the São Paulo FC and played for them until 2011.


Presently, Miranda plays for the Italian club, Internazionale, having moved to Milan after his spell at Atletico Madrid.


Captaincy


In the year 2016, Miranda was declared as the captain for the Brazilian national football team for Copa América Centenario.
