Montrezl Harrell: A Brief Biography
Montrezl Dashay Harrell is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Stated at 6’8” and playing at the power forward position, Harrell excelled at North Edgecombe High School. He led his team to a 38-1 record averaging 25.2 point and 13.6 rebounds per game.
Harrell decided to attend Louisville and play his college basketball for Louisville Cardinals. Playing as a backup power forward, Harrell averaged 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game for his freshman season. His best game came at the end of the season when he scored 20 points in Big East Conference championship victory over Syracuse thus leading the Cardinals to the 2013 NCAA championship to cap his freshman year.
In his sophomore year, Harrell was recognized as one of the top returning players in the country. He was selected to the preseason All-America third team in the 2013–14 college basketball preview magazine by Sporting News. In his junior year, Harrell averaged 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game and received the Karl Malone Award for the nation's top power forward.
Harrell was selected as the 32nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. After signing a three-year deal in the off-season, Harrell made his NBA debut for the Rockets in the teams’ season opener against the Denver Nuggets scoring 8 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. He received multiple assignments to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets' D-League affiliate in his rookie season. In the 2016-2017 season, Harrell set a career high with 29 points in a 140-116 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
In the 2017 offseason, Harrell was traded from the Houston Rockets to the Los Angeles Clippers along with Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Darrun Hilliard, DeAndre Liggins, Lou Williams, Kyle Wiltjer and a 2018 first-round pick in exchange for Chris Paul. Harrell averaged 11 points and 4 rebounds per game shooting 63.5 percent from the field in the 2017-2018 season. In 2018, Harrell signed a 2 year, 12-million-dollar deal with Clippers.
