Sandeep Singh: A Brief Biography

Sandeep Singh is an Indian field hockey player and an ex-captain of the Indian national team. He generally features as a full back and is a penalty corner specialist for the team. Singh embarked on his sports career in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Kuala Lumpur, 2004. He was appointed the captain of the Indian national team in January 2009. He is India\'s top hockey star and is one of the best drag-flickers in the world today. Under his captaincy, the Indian team managed to clinch the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009 after defeating Malaysia in the finals at Ipoh, with Singh being the top goal-scorer of the tournament. He represented India at the Summer Olympics 2012 in London. Singh was the highest scorer of the Olympic qualifiers with a score card of 16 goals. He was also a recipient of the Arjuna award in 2010.
