Nicolas Dumont left behind the superstars of poker to conquer the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo Casino EPT €5,300 Main Event. It took Dumont 6 hours at the final table to claim the €712,000 and an EPT title.
The French driving instructor steer cleared celebrated names like Ole Schemion, Patrik Antonius and David Peters to win the EPT title. His win also includes a coveted $30,000 Platinum Pass- an offering from none other than PokerStars.
The Platinum Pass has given him entry into the $25,000 PokerStars Player Championship(PSPC) to be held at The Bahamas in January 2019.
How it happened
Quite incidentally, Julien Perous, a friend of Dumont, due to some last minute change in plans, had asked him to participate at the EPT tournament at his place. Dumont accepted the offer and the rest, as they say, is history. However, both friends will be witnessing another history in making at the PSPC in 2019.
Excited about winning an entry into the PSPC, the EPT title winner said, “It will be fantastic, I don’t have words for saying how I’m feeling. It’s unreal.” Six days of grinding at the Main Event certainly paid off well.
Dumont
Looks like grinding $100 MTTs 2 days per week, helped Dumont to stay tough against the heavy hitters. On the final day, he was up against 8 strong players. However, his chip lead paved way for success, eventually.
Heads Up
In the heads up, Dumont fought Honglin Jiang at the tables. It looked like the former was willing to discuss a deal, but Jiang wasn’t quite sure about it. Therefore, post consulting with his sister, the latter decided to continue with the play.
Upon resuming the play, when Dumont was dealt queens, he limp-raised. And Jiang moved all-in with sixes in his hands. To this, the French called. When neither had anything better to offer, the EPT title and associated rewards went to Dumont.
Expressing his excitement, the winner said, “I tried to play the best that I can and I think I succeeded. I would like to show I’m a good player.”
