Jamie Lee Curtis, 63, is getting rid of body negativity by refusing to use body prosthetics and embracing her actual body for her upcoming movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Last Thursday, the actress took to Instagram to speak up on how she opted to have no filters or modifications done to her real self for the new movie.
The heartfelt message, which she wrote alongside a behind-the-scenes photo of herself sitting in a cubicle, wearing a tight-fitting polo neck that highlights her bulged out tummy, read:
"In the world, there is an industry — a billion-dollar, trillion-dollar industry — about hiding things. Concealers. Body-shapers. Fillers. Procedures. Clothing. Hair accessories. Hair products. Everything to conceal the reality of who we are. And my instruction to everybody was: I want there to be no concealing of anything."
The star revealed how she has been conscious of her body since the age of 11. She noted that she was done clenching her muscles in order "to hide the reality." Jamie Lee Curtis declared that it was now time to "relinquish and release every muscle," and that she had never felt more free.
"I've been sucking my stomach in since I was 11, when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight. I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal. I have never felt more free creatively and physically."

In the A24 adventure sci-fi, Jamie Lee Curtis plays an IRS auditor named Deirdre Beaubeirdra who happens to be the 'nemesis and bae' of Michelle Yeoh's lead character Evelyn Wang. As mentioned in Curtis' post, the entire movie was filmed right before the world shut down due to coronavirus lockdowns.
The IMDb description of the movie reads:
"An aging Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led."
Earlier this week, one of the directors, Daniel Kwan, told Entertainment Weekly that Curtis was not wearing a prosthetic stomach as one might have anticipated. He told the outlet:
"Everyone assumes that her belly in the movie is a prosthetic, but it's actually her real belly. She was grateful that she was allowed to just let it out."
Whereas co-director Daniel Scheinert offered an insight into Jamie Lee Curtis' process of prepping for the role. He dished:
"Immediately after signing up, she would text us photos of weird outfits and weird hairdos. There was one photo of an IRS auditor that Dan Kwan had found online - I mean, maybe she worked in a DMV, I don't know - but this one photo, Jamie was like: 'That's incredible, please let me be her - please, please, please, please.' And that photo became the reference for the hairdo and the outfit."
Everything Everywhere All at Once, which opened the 2022 SXSW Festival on March 11, comes from writer-director duo Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan. The latest movie, which also stars Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, and Harry Shum Jr., releases on March 25, 2022.
