Since AEW does not have the grueling schedule that WWE has, the wrestler contracts are comparatively relaxed. While appearing on all AEW shows is the priority, wrestlers are also free to take independent bookings. This policy will see both AEW World Champion Chris Jericho and his prospective challenger Jon Moxley appear in separate matches at the NJPW Tokyo Dome show in January 2020.

While neither Jericho nor Moxley holds any titles in NJPW (at the moment), there are many AEW wrestlers who are champions in other promotions. While some of these are minor independent promotions, there are a few well-known companies on the list as well.

There are more than ten AEW wrestlers who currently hold titles in this category - this article takes a look at five such wrestlers taking into account their role in the company/how prestigious the other titles are. Also, the list restricts itself to singles titles.

5. Darby Allin - North East Wrestling Heavyweight Champion

North East Wrestling is one of the top independent promotions in the North-eastern United States, with a history dating back to 1996 - which makes it older than both Impact Wrestling and ROH. Operated by promoter Mike Lombardi, the promotion stayed dormant for the first half of the 2000s before reviving again.

NEW has hosted several high profile wrestlers over the years, including Big Bam Bigelow, Sycho Sid, and recently Cody Rhodes, Flip Gordon, and Jack Swagger. Famously, Jon Moxley had also made an appearance at NEW Brass City Brawl this year wherein he beat Darby Allin in a 20-minute brawl.

Just a day after that match, Allin took on JT Dunn and beat him for the NEW World Heavyweight title. It was Allin's first-ever title and he has held on to it since then.

4. Riho - High Speed Champion

AEW's women's division undoubtedly needs a lot of improvement. While Champion Riho did get over as a babyface underdog, her feuds have mostly underwhelmed lately. She has had rivalries with Nyla Rose and Britt Baker over the title, in addition to a rushed angle with Emi Sakura.

Riho has been booked for two more title defenses, a four-way against Nyla Rose, Britt Baker, and Hikaru Shida on Jan 1 episode of Dynamite and a potential match with Kris Statlander the week after. The reigning champion hasn't really been a continuous presence on AEW TV since Dynamite started airing on TNT, but that doesn't mean that Riho has been idle.

She is wrestling continuously in regional Asian promotions and in fact, holds titles in companies based out of Singapore and Thailand. In addition to this, she is also the High Speed Champion in the Stardom promotion. High Speed Championship is the top women's title in Stardom and the title has been held by WWE's Io Shirai and AEW's Shanna in the past.

Riho made a surprise Stardom appearance in July 2019 and captured the High Speed title in her first match with the company. She beat the defending champion Death-Yama San and Starlight Kid in a three-way match to win the Championship.

Stardom is one of the most popular women's pro-wrestling promotions in Japan and is owned by entertainment company Bushiroad, which also owns New Japan Pro Wrestling - making Stardom and NJPW sister promotions.

3. Big Swole - Phoenix of Rise Champion

RISE Wrestling is an independent women's promotion based out of Naperville, Illinois which holds live events and iPPVs. Initially used as a feeder promotion for Shimmer wrestling, RISE has evolved into an entity of its own.

The promotion has both singles and tag title belts and the former is named Phoenix of Rise Championship. The title is currently in the hands of AEW wrestler Big Swole, who beat the former champion, Zoe Lucas, in August 2019 for the belt. The Championship has also been held by the likes of Mercedes Martinez, Tessa Blanchard, and Kylie Rae in the past.

The tag team titles in RISE is currently held by Impact wrestler Jessica Havoc and Neveah, who is the wife of another Impact wrestler, Jake Crist. In another interesting titbit, one-half of the first RISE tag team champions was current AEW wrestler Melanie Cruise, who recently made her debut as a plant in the audience who offered her hair to Brandi Rhodes to join the Nightmare Collective.

2. Jake Hager - Lucha Underground Champion

Jake Hager might not have wrestled a single match in AEW so far, but wrestling fans know that there is more to him than being just Chris Jericho's muscle. A former WWE World Champion, Hager is also an MMA competitor, currently undefeated in Bellator.

In addition to all this, Hager is also the current Lucha Underground World Champion. Lucha Underground was a wrestling show that ran for four seasons on the El Rey network till 2018, with mostly positive reviews. Season 4 finale saw Hager - wrestling as Jake Strong - beat current AEW superstar Pentagon Jr to win the Lucha Underground World title.

Pentagon had just regained the title from Marty Martinez when Hager decided to cash in his Gift of the Gods Championship opportunity. The former Jack Swagger would win the match in 42 seconds to become the new champion.

With no word on whether season 5 of Lucha Underground would happen, Hager might well be the last champion in LU history.

1. Kenny Omega - AAA Mega Champion

The only Championship in this list that has been featured on AEW television is the AAA Mega Championship, the primary title in the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide promotion from Mexico. The title is held by AEW EVP Kenny Omega, who beat AEW's Rey Fenix for the championship at the AAA PPV Heroes Inmortales 13 in October.

Omega would successfully defend the title against Jack Evans on the November 26 episode of AEW Dark. The week after, he would successfully defend the title against Dragon Lee at an AAA PPV as well.

AAA has a working relationship with AEW, which has seen other superstars like Pentagon as well as Rey Fenix wrestle on both shows. In fact, Pentagon and Fenix are the current AAA tag team champions. The AAA tag titles were defended twice on AEW PPVs this year, with the Young Bucks trading victories with the high-flying duo.
