Mussoorie Half Marathon set for 25th October

Mussoorie Half Marathon 2015

In its first year with incorporated professional timing technology, the Mussoorie Half Marathon is now a qualifier race for the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon and Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. The fourth edition of this Uttarakhandi high altitude race has so far beaten its previous participation records.

Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. As a final drum to the 7th edition of the Mussoorie Writers Mountain Festival, this year the Mussoorie Half Marathon is making waves in the Indian running scene. It has tripled participation since its previous edition, and it is slowly finding its very own place in the Indian races scene. What makes it unique is being one of the toughest half marathon courses in India at 7000 ft- rewarded with constant views of the Himalayan range on a road flanked with high altitude wildlife and flora.

In its first 2 years (2012 and 2013), the Mussoorie Half Marathon’s route went through the heart of Mussoorie (Library Bazaar/Mall Road) and out west to George Everest House and then all the way back to Woodstock School´s main gate. The route changed in 2014, when the route took a more peaceful and environmentally friendly turn for the better and now goes out East towards Dhanaulti.

The Mussoorie Half Marathon takes place this year on the last day of the Mussoorie Writers Mountain Festival. A festival in its 7th edition dedicated to literature, exploration, climbing, mountaineering and conservation hosting top authors, artists, filmmakers, climbers, explorers, conservationists and mountaineers from India and abroad- some of whom might be participating!

“Personally, I had always dreamed of organising a race in the foothills of the Himalayas when I first got to India in 2009. Not only because of the beauty, but the challenge!! Nothing beats the adrenaline rush of a Half Marathon at 7,000ft!

The feeling of going out on a long run with just you and the road and no other thoughts or care in the world is something I absolutely love. To try to bring that feeling to others with this race is just an out of this world feeling!” Steve Luukkonen, Mussoorie Half Marathon Director, is a qualified Boston Marathon runner, with more than 15 marathons and many more half marathons behind him.

The race registration deadline is the 27th of September.
