Prakash Nanjappa becomes the 6th Indian shooter to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics after having finished 8th in the 50m pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Gabala. The 39-year old shot a score of 567 points to finish as the second best athlete in the qualifications.

Earlier in his career, Nanjappa earned a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol event at the 2013 ISSF World Cup and won a silver medal in the same event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games after having scored a score of 198.2 in the final round.

He even suffered from a paralytic attack on the right side of his face during the 2013 World Cup in Granada and later staged a brave comeback at the international stage by winning the silver medal in the 50 metre pistol event at the Asian Air Gun Championship in Tehran.
