5 instances when MS Dhoni got into trouble with the law

Specuilations following investigations were unfounded

MS Dhoni's name is no stranger to controversy. It sort of comes with the territory of being the Indian cricket team captain. A public figure on that level is going to be scrutinized with microscopic detail. Of his legal problems Dhoni has said, "I know one thing, irrespective of what is there, when it comes to Indian cricket, my name keeps popping up. I am quite used to it. If there is nothing, some speculative story comes up, big or small. I have to keep dealing with all these things. It is the end of one story, something else may start in a couple of days’ time."Here are 5 instances when Dhoni got into trouble with the law:

#1 2013 IPL spot fixing scandal

Specuilations following investigations were unfounded

Dhoni’s name came under scrutiny in 2013. Gurunath Meiyappan was involved in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal and arrested for his part in it. Later in October 2013 a three member committee was appointed headed by Justice Mudgal to probe those allegations. In the wake of the findings of the committee numerous speculations ran amok. It was alleged that Meiyappan had personal access to Dhoni’s hotel room and was in touch with Dhoni regularly during IPL season 6. It was also alleged that Dhoni had lied to cover up his part in the scandal.

Although no concrete proof came to light, Dhoni's name was dragged in the controversy.

#2 God of Big deals

Quite a big deal made of a God of Big Deals cover

Dhoni graced a Business Today magazine cover in April 2013. Rather, his morphed image as the Lord Vishnu was used for the cover, depicting him as the God of Big Deals. A rather big deal has been made out of that cover.

Social worker Jayakumar Hiremath alleged under Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code that Dhoni has hurt religious sentiments by being on the cover. Justice AN Venugopal Gowda had been critical of Dhoni in the hearing "A celebrity and a cricketer like Dhoni should know the consequences of hurting the religious sentiments of people. He should have known the consequences of doing such ads," he said.
Justice Gowda further went on to say "These celebrities are only signing ads without any responsibility. Their aim is to earn easy money without considering the problems it may create,
It is clearly obvious that the image of Dhoni as Lord Vishnu has been digitally created. He didn't pose in that manner, nor did he grow eight arms. Dhoni had told the Karnataka HC that he had neither posed nor received any remuneration or goodwill amount for the magazine cover.
Conventionally one would think that one ought to sue the publication in such cases. Conventionally, one also goes to sue the biggest name one can.

#3 Soap it up

You’d be perplexed too in wake of these issues
In 2008 the state-owned Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KDSL) had served a legal notice to MS Dhoni to appear in Karnataka High court. KSDL's grievance was that Dhoni had been roped in as the brand ambassador of Mysore Sandal soaps in January 2006 for a two year endorsement, and he had failed to meet his obligations.
He was allegedly supposed to give 10 days to the company in two years, but he was only available for 3 days. They sought 40 lakh in damages. The deal was signed for Rs 84.85 lakh with the contract to end in January 2008, but KSDL terminated it in December 2007.

#4 Land dispute

Cut plot woes
In May 2015 The Jharkhand State Housing Board (JSHB) served Dhoni a notice asking why a plot of his land should not be cancelled. In 2006 Dhoni was alloted 5002 sq feet of land for his outstanding cricketing display in 2006. But he allegedly got another additional 4780.8 sq feet as 'cut plot' adjacent to the original plot.
One has to wonder how he finds time to focus on cricket with allegations popping up left, right and center.

#5 Vertical number plate

That is illegal placement on a drive

While a majority of Dhoni's legal problems involve millions of rupees, this matter goes to show that legal trouble can come at his doorstep even with a Rs 450 fine. Dhoni was seen riding his bike with the number plate placed vertically. He was served with a Rs 450 fine for the same as a vertical number plate is in violation of section 179 of the Motor vehicles Act and section 50 and 51 of the Central Motor Vehicle rule.
