5 of the quickest matches in WWE history

The Great One Every once in a while, WWE writers break the pattern of medium-length matches with a developed story and throw in an extremely short match.Such a match occurred on a recent Raw, when Neville surprised Intercontinental Championship contender Kevin Owens by beating him in about 20 seconds. But that doesn’t even approach the record for the quickest match in WWE history, and there are plenty of similar feats. In fact, here are just five of the matches that were quicker than that, all of which lasted just 10 seconds or less.

#5 Sheamus def. Zack Ryder

Zack Ryder may have been hyped to get a world title shot on Raw in August of 2010, but he probably wasn’t as thrilled with the result, and it didn’t take long to get there.

WWE Champion Sheamus came across the ring in a hurry, and he hit Ryder with a Brogue Kick so fierce, the match was over in 10 seconds. “Woo Woo Woo” that’s a quick defense and not an impressive effort from the Long Island native as a contender.

#4 Kane def. Chavo Guerrero

Kane has been one of the most dominant forces in the WWE in the almost two decades since he debuted in 1997, but perhaps none of his victories were as dominant as the one he picked up at Wrestlemania 24.

Facing Chavo Guerrero for the ECW Championship, the Big Red Machine laid waste to Chavo in just nine seconds. Add that to his 11 eliminations in one Royal Rumble and multiple championships on Kane’s resume as an eventual candidate for the WWE Hall of Fame.

#3 Diesel def. Bob Backlund

Honestly, this match might be the most disrespectful on the list. Having Diesel defeat Bob Backlund for the WWE Championship in just eight seconds, but that’s not all that makes this match notable.

In addition to the swift ending to the match, which came after one kick and a Jackknife Powerbomb, the match was held in a house show at Madison Square Garden in November 1994, not on television or pay-per-view.

Diesel – real name Kevin Nash – has since complimented Backlund’s work putting him over as the next champion, but it didn’t have to happen this way.

#2 Rock def. Big Bossman

The main feature of Survivor Series 1998 was the Deadly Games tournament for the WWE Championship, eventually won by The Rock. On his way to the title, though, The Rock picked up an amazingly quick victory over Big Bossman in the first round.

Almost as soon as Big Bossman hit the ring, Rocky hit him with a Rock Bottom and applied the pin, collecting his first win of the event in just five seconds. Efficient and electrifying work from the People’s Champion.

#1 Jericho/Lawler def. Tazz/Mideon

In a sport where matches are decided in three seconds, that’s about as quick as one can be finished. And that’s exactly how fast Chris Jericho and Jerry “The King” Lawler beat Tazz and Mideon on Raw back in 2000.

Tazz was distracted by his partner Mideon who showed up in tiny trunks and nothing else, and Lawler used that time to spring on Tazz for a quick roll-up. Tazz was both shocked and embarrassed, all in a span of three seconds.
