5 reasons why John Cena cannot be a heel

If there was a Hulk Hogan in the Golden Era and a Steve Austin in the Attitude Era, then what the fans have in the PG Era is John Cena.A million dollar name, Cena has been on the cover of every cereal box that WWE has produced over the last decade. But despite the backing of the company he is also the most polarizing stars that professional wrestling has seen.Where ever he goes there will be two sections of fans, one chanting Lets go Cena while the other chants Cena sucks. And for someone who used to bring down the roof a few years ago, the signs of fans turning against him are not a welcome sight. The main reason of this swerve is believed to be the lack of risk that the WWE is willing to take with John Cena. His character hasnt had any development for ages now and for the past nine years Cena is stuck with his same gimmick while running around one of the top titles. Many are calling for a much anticipated heel turn from the Cenation leader but it is unlikely to be his savior. A heel turn will make Cenas matches a bit interesting for some time but here is a look at those reasons why it wouldnt be a good thing on the long run.

#5 A Heel Cena has no opponent other than Daniel Bryan

One of the things that come to question whenever a wrestler is to be turned heel is his newest opponent and the catalyst for the turn.

And as far as Cena goes, the company could easily make him a heel now by just letting him have some friction with Bryan but that would just be the only distance that he could go. Once Cena will be finished with his feud with Bryan he will have no worthy opponent left in the roster who could enhance his heel persona.

Though Undertaker is a good option, considering his once in a year appearance, it wouldn’t work well either for a regular wrestler like Cena.

Name like Randy Orton, Alberto Del Rio, Big Show and all have had their feuds with Cena and the company might need to build Roman Reigns or Cesaro as a credible main eventer to challenge Cena. this could take a couple of years which will physically take a toll his body this making it look a bit old as time goes.

#4 He will still be the same inside the ring

One of the reasons why superstars like Daniel Bryan found foot in the WWE is because he bought some good wrestling into the ring. And with that good wrestling came some exposure of WWE’s many other names that barely had a varying move set.

One of those big names was Cena himself.

He has barely had a move set repair after his debut and is still stuck with his famous five moves, which the fans would like to just forget.

Even if the company turns him heel, Cena will be having these same moves and nothing else. A heel Cena doing his trade mark moves and nothing else would just be stale like Randy Orton’s character.

And if the WWE decides to give him some more additional moves, then also Cena would need a lot of time adapting which will take the sting off his heel turn in just a matter of time.

#3 Hes the reason why WWE is Family Friendly

The point why WWE went with the whole Family Friendly thing was because Vince McMahon felt that his promotion was just leaving behind a legacy of blood, sex and violence instead of something that everyone could look up to.

And the main weapon that McMahon used to transform his company was John Cena.

McMahon simply built the PG Era around Cena and made him the biggest star in the company. He wasn’t someone who would drink beer or say foul language; he was just a guy that everyone could look up to, a clean guy that we could take to our home.

So turning heel will literally make the castle that McMahon built shaky since the person around whom it all revolves will no longer be worth it.

Having cracks in their family friendly nature will work adversely against WWE, since they would find it hard to cope with a heel persona of their best family guy.

#2 The Children could still cheer him

Being the face of a family friendly show comes with some certain things like a fan following full of children.

Cena is arguably the reason why most of the children watch WWE in the first place and it’s these same children that make their parents spend their well-earned money on merchandises and tickets because when your child says something you make it happen.

And most of these children rarely are aware of the kayfabe storylines involved and might even miss the whole heel turn part. They could continue cheering for Cena no matter what and make their parents do the same making Cena’s heel turn least affective.

There are no ways to rectify this as well since no matter how much WWE denies it; their target audience is the children.

If you don’t believe me, then take a look at the commercials they air on the Network and see a hardcore legend like Mick Foley trying to fit into an action figure seller.

#1 There is no replacement for Cena yet

Daniel Bryan might be the most popular guy in the company at the moment but he is clearly not someone who could step into the shoes of John Cena.

If Cena turns heel he will be leaving a big void as the face of the company which doesn’t have any worthy replacement yet. Though Bryan is one of the best things inside the ring, his fans should be aware of the fact that WWE is not only a wrestling promotion.

There are not like Ring Of Honor to give the fans just pure wrestling, WWE is a company which has film production, millions worth of merchandising, weekly main stream television shows and many more. Bryan is nowhere ready to do all those things, imagining him being the hero of some movie like Marine or Scorpion King would give some idea on how it will look like.

Cena is the only superstar the in the current active roster that could pull off all that without much of an effort and a heel Cena would have a tough time doing the same.

The company would not want to rush into things and make a big hole on top of the chain and the turn of Cena is something which needs to be kept for the best time.
