#10 Driven (2001)

Driven was Sylvester Stallone’s effort towards making a racing movie. ‘Driven’ focused on the CART Championship Series. It deals with the career and life of a young rookie driver Jimmy Bly and his struggle towards becoming successful in the sport. Yes, this movie suffers from terrible CGI and yes, it has several scarcely belivable racing scenes. But if those two aspects are momentarily ignored, then the movie is an entertainer in its own way.

#9 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)

Starring Will Ferrell, this movie is a tongue-in-cheek look at the racing world. Ferrell’s character Ricky Bobby becomes a successful NASCAR driver, but when problems arise both on and off the track, how he deals with those problems forms the crux of this film. Featuring cameos form NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle and Jamie McMurray, the movie has had wide acceptance within the NASCAR fraternity for its humorous look at the series.

This is probably one of the most accurate depictions of NASCAR ever made on film. At the time of its release, despite receiving appreciation from critics, it was not a commercial success, but it remains popular among NASCAR fans.

Tom Cruise reunited with director Tony Scott to deliver another smash hit in the form of ‘Days of Thunder’ in 1990. The film follows the life and career of a young NASCAR driver Cole Trickle (portrayed by Tom Cruise) in his quest towards becoming a successful driver and the hurdles which he has to face in the process. The movie has some great racing sequences and also its lines like “rubbing is racing” have become really popular among NASCAR fans.
