Dark Souls 2, the action role playing game, developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco Games, was released few months back and received universal critical acclaim. The game garnered praises for it’s difficulty, atmosphere, and visuals, seeing it as a large improvement over the first two installments in the series. Also, an updated version, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, is scheduled to be released in 2015, with a compilation of the original game and its DLC campaigns. Scholar of the First Sin will also come in enhanced PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions, featuring updated graphics, audio, and performance, along with an increase in the maximum amount of online players in a single session.Taking place in the world of Drangleic, the story revolves around an undead human known as the ‘bearer of the curse’. There are numerous hidden things to loot in this game, while it’s easy to progress through the game and simply take what you find along your way or there are many rewards waiting for those who choose to dig a little deeper for the more rare items available. #1 Avelyn - Three-in-a-row firing Crossbow

Many would have missed this three-in-a-row firing crossbow, Avelyn while playing the game for the first time. This crossbow can be found in the Uncead Crypt, where you are invaded by Nameless Usurper, then turn right and interact with the wall. The wall will move, revealing a hidden room with two transparent warriors and a chest. Within that chest is the Avelyn.

It can inflict high elemental damage by enchanting it with fire, lightning dark etc. Dual wielding the Avelyn requires stamina consumption and reload time. The description for Avelyn reads:

“An extremely rare rapid-firing crossbow. Fire three successive bolts. Inflict heavy damage by making all three shots count. Fiorenza, the richest merchant in all of Volgen recreated this lost weapon after reading of it in an old book”

#2 The Ring Of Whispers

This Ring of Whispers is available for purchase from the cat, Sweet Shalquoir, in Majula. This ring is not the secret, but its use is. In the Shaded Woods area, a large scorpion stands alone in a sandy arena. His name is Manscorpion Tark and while an unaware player might mistake him for an enemy, this scorpion is actually a potential ally. You need to equip this ring, in order to interact with him and summoning him during that area’s boss fight.

It’s a rough boss battle and this scorpion provides invaluable backup. .

#3 Captain Drummond\'s Drangleic Set

This Drangleic set (Armour/Gauntlets/Leggings) without the helm, can be found after you defeat the Pursuer. Walk past the area you fought him in and you will see a hole in the ground. Dropping into the hole will reveal a corpse, which has the Drangleic Set as well as a greatsword and shield.

The shield has 100% physical blocking and the greatsword is a brilliant weapon for those looking to wield quality weapons, which benefit from both the strength and dexterity. The sword and shield can be used by many players until the final encounters.

#4 The Vengarl\'s Set

The description for Vengarl’s Set reads,

"Helmet worn by the ferocious Vengarl of Forossa. As Vengarl's helmet suggests, he was not unlike a mad beast on the battlefield. Vengarl was known as a raging, deadly warrior. Even Forossa's Lion Knights, a motley crew of rabid fighters, kept him at arm's length."

You will find the Head of Vengarl in a clearing at the Shaded Woods. Interact with his head, he will tell some gnarly poems about peace and tranquility. Exhaust all his dialogue options. just make him talk more till he thanks you for your time and gives you Vengarl’s Helm. After defeating The Duke's Dear Freja go to her primal bonfire, it will be guarded by Vengarl’s headless body. Defeat him and he will drop the armor, gloves and boots.

#5 The Moonlight Greatsword

In order to obtain this magnificient gigantic blue sword, you need to bring the Paledrake soul acquired from Duke’s Dear Freja. Alongwith the Paledrake Soul, you also need to give 10,000 souls to Weaponsmith Ornifex, in order to build the Moonlight Greatsword.

The strong attack from this sword unleashes its strength, launching a wave of moonlight towards the enemies. You can see the same but fake Greatsword (the BlueMoon Greatsword) in the hands of Benhart, who speaks about it so highly and swings very gracefully in battle.

#6 The Havel\'s Set

Havel the Knight is a popular character from the first Dark Souls, who had a robust armour set and a gigantic weapon. His armour set is heavy but is the best set for Physical Defense. You can find this ultra heavy armour set by first acquiring the Forgotten Key in the Black Gulch, which is obtained by defeating the two giants hiding in a cave underneath the section leading to The Rotten boss fight. Then head to The Gutter and locate a hidden door behind a circle.

Make sure you have the Flying Feline boots or the Silver Cat ring in order to reduce the fall damage. This armour set will look different from the original set, because this is made of steel and not from stone.

#7 The Sun Sword

For many Dark Souls players, the phrase “Praise the Sun” brings warmth to the soul. It’s the catch-phrase of the lovable Solaire of Astora, one of the ally NPCs which appeared in the first game. The sword is obtained as an automatic reward for reaching Rank 2 of Heirs of the Sun covenant, you also need to offer 20 sunlight medals in the Sunlight Altar.

Once it’s upgraded, this sword provides great scaling for players who have invested in their Strength and Dexterity. For instance, when upgraded to +10, this weapon does 350 physical damage with 40 strength and 40 dexterity. 175 base + 210 with scaling. Also, at magic +10 with 40 strength, dexterity, and Intelligence, this sword possesses an attack rating of 352.

#8 The Vanquisher\'s Seal

This is the Covenant ring for champions, which increases bare handed attack power. To acquire this ring, you must first enter the Covenant of Champions. As a part of this Covenant, you won’t be able to summon for help throughout the game, meaning all bosses will have to be taken down all on your own, also every enemy will be made immediately tougher. You then need to collect 50 Awestones, dropped by various enemies and invading players.

This ring is obtained once you give 50 Awestones to the altar in the Company of Champions. This ring combines well with the Ring of Blades.

#9 Aurous Set or the Invisible Set

After you’ve spent 16000 souls on Mauglin’s Shop on various armours in Majula, returning to him with no souls will prompt him to award you with the Aurous set or the Invisible Set. Contrastingly, you can obtain this armour from the Dark Spirit, Rhoy the Explorer in Grave of Saints.

This armour becomes visible when you are aiming a bow, and when rolling with the simpleton's ring. It is visible only for a brief period.

Also, you can obtain the visible set from a Dark Spirit at No-Man's Wharf on the ship in New Game+.

#10 The Heide Knight Set

During the game, you will encounter three Heide Knight’s who will only attack if you attack them first. During your first playthrough, you’ll surely get a different Heide weapon from each of them, but it is possible to get hold of their armour.

Once you start in New Game+, each knight has a chance to drop a piece of his armour rather than his weapon, you can collect it by this method, but the best way to get the set is to kill the Heide knight that is in Lost Bastille. #11 The Santier\'s Spear

But be aware of the primal knight behind the door, even if you only open the bottom door, he can still hit you. The spear has a large chunk of rock near its tip, but if you bash the durability down, that rock will fall off and the weapon will change significantly.

Once the durability is depleted, this is the one and only weapon with technically INFINITE DURABILITY, which is extremely useful on a no death, no bonfire walkthrough.

#12 Armor of Vendrick - The King\'s Set

This is the armour set of King Vendrick and if you thought acquiring it would be as easy as picking this set from his corpse, you are going to be disappointed. To acquire this black armour set, you have to backtrack a bit to the Shrine of Amana, where you can find a hidden path just a little way beyond the second bonfire in the area and must be in human form for opening the door.

Once Vendrick is defeated, which is comparatively tough, you can access this hidden pathway and gain access to his armour. It is also possible to obtain Vendrick’s Ultra Greatsword, by trading his soul to Weaponsmith Ornifex.
