Top 5 Last Man Standing matches in WWE history

Over the years, the promotions have given the fans a plethora of differently stipulated matches. Ranging from ridiculous to legendary, most of them still remain one level above the regular matches which WWE brings to us every week in and week out.And one in particular which the fans often love to see is the Last man standing match as it pushes both the wrestlers to their exact limit. It might be known as WWE’s version of the Deathmatches, but these matches have managed to make its own space in the history books.

#5 John Cena vs. Umaga, Royal Rumble 2007

WWE played out the monster vs. superhero card for this one and walked out with a memorable last man standing match. Umaga was seen dominating Cena from the start with the Cenation leader having to fight back with some offense of his own.

Steel steps proved to be an instrumental weapon for Cena however it wasn’t enough to keep the monster down. There was also one spot with the announce table were Umaga tried to splash Cena but ended up going through the table.

Meanwhile, Umaga’s manager Armando Estrada dethatched the turnbuckle which worked in favor of Cena. He used the ropes to strangle Umaga who ended up spitting blood while the referee counted to ten giving Cena the win.

#4 The Rock vs. Mankind, St Valentines Day Massacre 1999

With a hardcore legend Mick Foley involved, the fans were expecting a great match and weren’t disappointed when it unfolded.

Foley took a lot of punishment as usual and was even thrown into the stage set. There were some brutal chair shots as well in the match. To make matters creepier, the Rock decided to grab the microphone and start singing right in between the match.

As the match moved towards the end, Mankind gave DDT to the Rock on the chair while Rock delivered a rock bottom. However it was a double chair shot that kept both the men down to end the match in a draw.

#3 Chris Jericho vs. Triple H, Fully Loaded 2000

Jericho and Triple H was in their prime during this time and this ensured some heart stopping action between the two.

From the start Hunter was going behind the chest and ribs of Jericho. The duo then managed to exchange some chair shots from which Hunter was busted open. TV monitors were also involved in the match but both men were still standing.

Jericho then tried to take out Hunter with the sledge hammer and had him tap out to the walls of Jericho. Since submission didn’t give him a win, Jericho ended up searching for new ways. In the end, Triple H managed to suplex Jericho into a table from which Jericho didn’t stand up

#2 Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels Royal Rumble 2004

The relationship between Hunter and Michaels was strained after the former decided to double cross after teasing a potential reunion of DX. This led to a series of matches between the two and this was one among that.

The match went back and forth as both men knew eachother like the back of their hands. Hunter and Michaels eventually started bleeding after some brutal exchanges and were eluding eachother from performing their finishers.

When Hunter finally broke the jinx, Michaels stood up at 9 and gave a super kick to Hunter. Both men didn’t get up after that and this ended the match in a draw. This draw later gave the fans another epic match as Triple H faced Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit in a triple threat match at WrestleMania.

#1 John Cena vs. Edge, Backlash 2009

John Cena has had many rivals in his career but there aren’t many that could give Edge a run when it comes to being the best from the lot.

It started off with an intense brawl between the two with both trying to get an early win. Steel Steps was introduced by both men soon and was used for various purposes. They then moved up to the announce table after that and Cena performed the Attitude Adjustment to Edge into the crowd.

The match saw a great twist in the end as Big Show came out of nowhere to lift Cena and chokeslam him into the spotlight which was kept there. Cena couldn’t answer the ten count living Edge as the winner in this epic encounter.
