8 dream Brock Lesnar matches we never got to see

In 2011, when Brock Lesnar was diagnosed with a recurring bout of diverticulitis, very few imagined that he would pursue his career in contact sports. Lesnar returned to the UFC not long after, but was sent packing by former Strikeforce champion, Alistair Overeem, and Lesnar officially retired from Mixed Martial Arts. While the most optimistic fan hoped for a potential return to the WWE for the former King Of The Ring tournament winner, and the youngest WWE champion in history, not many would’ve thought it would be possible for Lesnar to return to the WWE ring.A year later, Lesnar signed with the WWE, and immediately made a huge impact by taking down the former WWE champion, John Cena on the night of his return. Since then, Lesnar has been the most dominant force to have stepped foot inside the WWE ring in the past decade, and had an incredible 2014, during which he defeated The Undertaker at WrestleMania to become the first man to pin or submit the Deadman at the grandest stage. He would later go on to beat John Cena in the most lopsided WWE title match in history, and had an incredible run as the WWE World Heavyweight champion. However, WWE missed the boat on a couple of dream feuds Lesnar could’ve had since his return, although some of those feuds are still possible. In this article, we take a look at 10 dream matches involving Lesnar that we never got to see, including with the legends from the past.

#8 Andre The Giant

While Brock Lesnar is the undisputed “Beast Incarnate” in the WWE today, Andre was one of the most feared competitors to have entered the WWE ring. If we had the option of going back in time, this is one match most of the ardent WWE fans would wish to see.

With the combination of speed, power and agility of Lesnar, and the brute strength and stature of Andre The Giant, both men squaring off in the ring would’ve been equivalent to the iconic Andre – Hogan stare down at WrestleMania 3. We could’ve even witnessed Lesnar picking up Andre for an F – 5, making it just as iconic and phenomenal as the sight of Hogan bodyslamming Andre The Giant inside the Pontiac Silverdome!

#7 Bruno Sammartino

In WWE folklore, it is said that no man could come close to the might of one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time, and the longest reigning WWE champion in history, Bruno Sammartino. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger, during his recent Hall of Fame induction speech talked about being in awe of Bruno, who was one of the judges during one of the competitions Arnold was a part of.

With Bruno being one of the stalwarts of the old WWF, and Brock Lesnar being one of the most decorated professional wrestlers in the history of the company, the two squaring off in the ring would’ve made for an enthralling contest, and the fans would’ve witnessed who the true powerhouse was between the two behemoths.

#6 Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley was tipped to be the next big star in the WWE when he was initially brought in. With impressive physique and the WWE build, Lashley soon received a gigantic push in the organization, where he was a part of one of the marquee matches at WrestleMania, which also saw ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Donald Trump shaving Vince McMahon’s head along with Lashley.

Lashley’s background in MMA also made the fans wonder if they could ever see Lashley, and Lesnar, who was still signed to the UFC duke it out inside the Octagon. While that never happened, Lashley facing Brock Lesnar in a WWE ring would sure make for an exciting match-up, with two of the strongest men in professional wrestling today slugging it out in the ring.

#5 Sheamus

Sheamus is undoubtedly one of the toughest competitors in the WWE today. The Irishman has been dishing out punishment for the past few years, and his rise to the top in the WWE was just as impressive as Brock Lesnar’s was when he first burst onto the scene.

If there is one competitor who can match Lesnar for physicality in the ring, it is Sheamus. It would surely make for a compelling confrontation, and the brawl between the two would be just as good, or even be better than the physicality between Roman Reigns and Lesnar at WrestleMania.

#4 Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe has been heralded as the last remaining ‘real tough guy’ in professional wrestling today, and that is for a good reason. Joe was involved in some of the most physical matches one can imagine, and his ROH match with Kenta Kobashi is regarded as one of the best, as well as stiffly worked matches in recent memory.

Recently, Joe expressed his interest in signing up with the WWE to face Brock Lesnar, and with the rumors of Joe coming close to signing with the WWE running rampant, we might get to witness both the performers go toe to toe in an enticing match up.

#3 Batista

This was one other feud the WWE failed to capitalize on last year, when Batista made his return to the WWE. Back in 03 – 04, when Lesnar was going through every major star on SmackDown, becoming the face of the brand, Batista was biding his time as Triple H’s henchman. Not long after, Batista became the top star in the WWE while Brock Lesnar left the organization to pursue his dream of becoming a footballer.

Batista has been one of the better heavyweights in the WWE in the past decade. Batista has since left the WWE to concentrate on his Hollywood career, and with “The Animal” being open to return to the WWE in the near future, it wouldn’t a bad idea to pit him against the former WWE World Heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar.

#2 Cesaro

If we talk about strength, the one person who can compete with Lesnar in the WWE today is the Swiss Superman, Cesaro. Everyone expected that the two would get into a confrontation when Cesaro was revealed as the new Paul Heyman Guy last year, but unfortunately, the lack of proper build and WWE’s indecisiveness about pushing Cesaro killed any momentum that Cesaro had.

Saying that, with Cesaro being over with the WWE Universe, and given his history with Paul Heyman, the two strongmen can still come face to face later this year. Not only would it be one of the biggest and most physical matches in the WWE, but it would also give Cesaro the rub he needs to break the shackles, and climb up the food chain in the organization.

#1 Daniel Bryan

One of the reasons why the fans wanted Daniel Bryan to main event WrestleMania earlier this year was to see the ultimate underdog face his biggest challenge to date. In a true David versus Goliath scenario, Daniel Bryan taking on Brock Lesnar would have made perfect sense, and would’ve given the WWE Universe a reason to get excited before WrestleMania.

While Vince himself agreed that the build up to ‘Mania was dull and lackluster, Bryan facing Brock Lesnar would’ve made for an exciting main event. With Bryan getting injured and the looming concern about his health, we might not get to see the two of the best performers facing off in the ring. We can only hope that Bryan recuperates from his injury, and WWE goes ahead with Bryan – Lesnar for SummerSlam later this year.
