5 mysterious Pro-Wrestling deaths

Early deaths of wrestlers have always been a hot topic to debate upon in the professional wrestling world. Many point out that the amount of substance abuse leads to the death of people associated with the business while others suggest that the physical trauma that they take throughout the career is to blame.Though most of the wrestlers passed out with a clear reason behind their demise, there were certain others, who remain as big talking points. These names left behind a great deal of unsolved mysteries surrounding their deaths and everyone seems to be still tryng to put the pieces together to complete the puzzle. So lets take a look at some of those superstars who had their wrestling career capped with a mysterious death.

#5 Von Erich Family

There aren’t many wrestling families out there that could’ve made such a controversial impact to the wresting world than these guys.

A collection of some great talent, the Von Erich family had some curse upon them which made them bow down to the clutches of death.

Fritz Von Erich, who was the head of Erich family, had six sons out of which five died before Fritz passed away. His first son Jack dies at an early age of six while his next son David died due to intestinal problems.

But it was the death of his remaining three sons that filled the headlines.

All of his three sons, Kerry, Chris and Michael committed suicide because of reason mostly unknown till now.

The motive of Kerry is the only thing which might be less mysterious as he was suffering from depression because of his brother’s death and marriage problems. Chris and Michaels still remain as the biggest mystery of this already mysterious family who surprisingly was even inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

#4 Dino Bravo

Bravo was one of the biggest mid carders in the territory days and had a great run at WWF. Canadian born Bravo had many title runs in WWF and also had a famous match with Hulk Hogan which never happened because the company didn’t want the fans to cheer for Bravo over Hogan since the match was scheduled to be in his hometown.

The high points of his career ended there but it was his death that made him more famous among the fans.

Bravo retired from WWF after a spell of more than one decade and was shot dead at the age of 44.

He took seven bullets to his head and another ten to his torso while watching television in his home and the reason for his death is reportedly the friction that he had with the underworld mafia in Canada which was doing illegal ciggerete smuggling.

He apparently used his popularity from Wrestling to get into the illegal business and saw himself pay the price for it. His murder still remains as an unsolved case in the Canadian police files as no one is clear about the motives or his murderer.

#3 Bruiser Brody

Another one from the Territory days, Brody was someone who was much bigger than Bravo. He was seen as the best brawler in the wrestling business at that time and held many titles all across the world.

But a decision to take up a booking in Puerto Rico cost him his life after Jose Huertas Gonzalez, a promoter and fellow wrestler stabbed Brody to death in the locker room prior to a match.

Gonzalez reportedly asked Brody to enter the shower for some discussion and what followed were some loud groans after which Brody was seen holding his stomach while Gonzalez had a knife in this hand. Tony Atlas, Zeb Colter and Carlos Colon all were present during that time, and Brody died soon saying the last words

“Tell my little son I love him, and tell my wife I love her, too."

Gonzalez was charged with first degree murder but was later acquitted saying that he did it for self-defense. Tony Atlas who testified against Gonzalez initially later jumped ships and it resulted in Gonzalez getting a non-guilty verdict.

Self-defense or Murder, it still lingers around as a mystery which took the Puerto Rico region by storm.

#2 Miss Elizabeth

Miss Elizabeth was one of the most popular valets in the Golden era as she served as the manager of Mega powers which had two of the biggest names that time, Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan.

Her professional career saw her hang around WWE and WCW for almost two decades and had interactions with many decorated names. After letting go by WCW in 2000, she moved in with Lex Luger who she was planning to marry in 2003 according to her friends.

But in 2003, instead of the marriage something worst happened when she passed away due to acute toxicity which came as an effect of having painkiller and vodka.

Soon Lugar was arrested by the police and was accused of murder since he was the one with her when she died. The reports claim that Luger forced her to take the drugs and which in result took her life.

While others suggest that she committed suicide because of an unhealthy relationship. And the previous relationship she had with Randy Savage was termed as the reason behind the cause of problems between Luger and her.

The death was eventually ruled as an accident but no one really knows whether it was a suicide, accident or a murder.

#1 Chris Benoit

One of the darkest chapters in the wrestling business, the Suicide and murder case of Benoit literally changed the way everyone looked at wrestling.

After a great career which saw him establish a great technical style in WCW and WWE, Benoit apparently went on to kill his wife Nancy and strangle his seven year old son before committing suicide. The murder and suicide happened over a span of three days and once the bodies were found it led to many stories regarding what happened in that house.

The last assumption that concluded the case was Benoit was suffering from brain damage from steroid abuse and as a result murdered his family and committed suicide.

There were theories about his marriage being falling apart because of Benoit having an affair with some WWE diva also but no one knew what really happened.

However, Benoit’s death led to a better setting for the wrestlers as the companies started to take measures to keep the wellbeing of their employers.
