5 worst matches In WrestleMania

WrestleMania is THE biggest stage for any wrestler to make a name for himself in the professional wrestling business. And the same is applicable to the writers as well. The success of the pay-per-view has always been vested on the ink of the creative team and their decisions. Pleasing the hardcore fans of the promotion is no easy task for even the most experienced ones and the common scene of fans taking over the shows in distress over the last year was the result of the creatives failure. However, as another WrestleMania approaches, they will be looking to rally up the troops and deliver something spectacular. While we wait to see whether they will be able to do it or not, lets take a look at some instances where the writers literally screwed up on the grand stage of them all.

#1 The Undertaker vs. Big Boss Man WrestleMania XV

Undertaker’s 21-0 streak at WrestleMania has hosted some of the matches of the century, but the early days had some flops of the millennium like this as well.

The match between the two members of a heel faction without any face turn whatsoever proved to be a costly one for the company. Competed in Hell in a Cell, the match only lasted less than 10 minutes which is the shortest Hell in a Cell match in the history of WWE.

But what followed after the match was more worse as Undertaker literally hanged Big Boss Man on the ceiling of the Hell in a Cell. He faked his death on Pay-Per-View and none expected the company to go this far with their Attitude.

Big Boss Man’s career got a full stop after that while Undertaker went on to have a much more contrasting career which saw him reach the top of the business.

#2 Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon WrestleMania XXVI

Montreal Screwjob might be one of the most controversial events in WWE rich history, and having a match between the men involved on both side of the swerve was a good idea to start with.

But the thing was, this match happened a decade after the Screwjob happened. Well past their wrestling days, Vince McMahon and Bret Hart had more broken bones in them rather than move sets.

the fans expected an emotionally packed match which would span over a couple of minutes, it turned out to be a match that ended up stretched over 10 minutes.

It even included an unwanted double swerve from the Hart Family much to the distress of the fans. and actually it was sad to see that Bret didn’t have enough in him to get a great sharpshooter locked in since he had some memorable moment back in the day with this.

Vince McMahon getting banged with chairs however a nice thing to watch as Bret seemed to be unloading all the frustration he had over the years.

#3 Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan WrestleMania XXVIII

Okay so it’s not the shorted match in the history, but it was a match where the World Heavyweight championship was on the line, the same World Heavyweight championship which was held by the lights of Triple H, John Cena and many more.

Instead of booking a great match between the best technician and best brawler in the roster, WWE decided to make a mess out of the match and bury Daniel Bryan in just below 20 seconds.

Sheamus got one of the cheapest wins in his career while fans who wanted to see a great match between the two had to wait for John Cena and Rock.

However, Daniel Bryan just shoot into the stars after that and one can only imagine how the fans would react if something like that happened during this time.

#4 Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna WrestleMania IX

When we take the list of the worst WrestleMania ever, WrestleMania 9 would always be in the mix to win the ultimate honor.

An average show to be precise, the company could’ve closed it off well with a great Bret Hart against Yokozuna match, but instead they went with the master plan to destroy WrestleMania by making Hulk Hogan come down to the ring.

Hogan accepted the challenge posed by Yokozuna’s manager Mr.Fuji after Yokozuna won the WWF title after defeating Bret Hart. And Hogan soon ended up winning the WWE title in a match which lasted less than 30 seconds.

Do we need any other reason to say that it was the worst WrestleMania ever? Even Bret Hart was furious after it and said the Hogan was escaping from him with such kind of cowardly act to win the title.

#5 Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler WrestleMania XXVII

The names says it all, though Jerry Lawler maybe some sort of a legend when it came to wrestling, he was completely out of his comfort zone in this one.

And then there was Michael Cole, who had no idea whatsoever what he was doing inside the ring.

Surprisingly enough, the company built up this match as some sort of a big grudge match between the two most decorated commentators in the world. Michael Cole was working a lot with his heel gimmick and the duo even started child fights on mic instead of calling the match.

They even added Steve Austin as the special guest referee which made it look like a very special match.

However, once it started everyone realized that it was nothing more than Botch mania in WrestleMania. Jerry Lawler eventually won this disaster match after Cole tapped out to an Angle lock.
