6 WWE Extreme Rules facts you probably didn't know

The Extreme Rules pay-per-view came into life in 2009 as an alteration of the One Night Stand which upheld the essence of the original ECW.Gimmick matches and superstars pushing to their limits were the soul of the One Night Stand PPV and though, the violence has been a bit toned down, it still remain very high compared to the other offerings that WWE give. This year, there have been some stipulations added to the main matches while the final match card is yet to be confirmed. And fans that doesnt get to see many gimmick matches in WWE will be eagerly anticipating the Extreme Rules, but before we get to there, here is a look at some interesting facts that might improve the viewing pleasure or even give a sense of dejavu.

#6 23 different types of matches

Before we get into the facts, here is a bit of stat for everyone who loves to see stipulations added to a wrestling match. There have been 23 different types of matches in the 5 year history of the Extreme Rules pay-per-view and here is a list of those.

Singles Matches, Fatal Four-Way Matches, Triple Threat Matches, No Holds Barred Matches, Type of Leather Strap Matches, Hog Pen Matches, Steel Cage Matches, Submission Matches, Ladder Matches, Gauntlet Matches, Hair Matches, Extreme Rules Matches, Street Fight Matches, Extreme Makeover Matches, Last Man Standing Matches, Table Matches, Falls Count Anywhere Matches, Loser Leaves WWE Matches, Lumberjack Matches, 2-Out-of-3 Falls Matches, Straight up Handicap Matches, Tornado Tag Team match, I Quit match,

#5 It was Extreme Rules where Dean Ambrose won the US title

The Shield is establishing themselves as main stays in the top tier of the roster by feuding with Evolution. They are all set for the war to break out at Extreme Rules where the team is going to matter more than the individual.

But one individual in the Shield will be having some burden around his waist, the United States title. Ambrose is the longest reigning US champion in the history of WWE and to be frank he hasn’t defended it much.

If we recall, it was at Extreme Rules where first got hold of the title. Ambrose defeated Kofi Kingston, who won the US title at Extreme Rules on previous two occasions.

So when Ambrose sets his foot into the ring at Extreme Rules, it surely will bring him memories of his title run which sadly won’t end at the pay-per-view as itself.

#4 Before Alexandre Rusev, Ryback had a similar handicap match in Extreme Rules

Ryback and Rusev have some striking resemblances. They both are big power wrestlers who got a big push at the start of their career. Both of them even had many squash wins over their opponents to make everyone realize how dangerous they were.

Rusev will take things to next step at Extreme Rules when he will face R-Truth and Xavier Woods in a handicap match. But in fact, it’s a formula that WWE already devised with Ryback.

Ryback was in a similar match in 2012 Extreme Rules and came out winning just under 2 minutes against two local opponents.

Though Woods and Truth are professionally trained performers, no one is going to keep their money on the duo. Rusev is sure to walk out of the PPV with a win, and hopefully he won’t end up like Ryback after that.

#3 All Main Events has been rated 4 stars or above

Dave Meltzer and his ratings is something that the fans always look up when they want to decide which match they should see on the internet.

Over the years, Meltzer has rated a plethora of matches with some rare ones getting a perfect five. He however is also very critical and even give minus ratings is a promotion screws up. But Extreme Rules apparently is a good watch for him.

In the five year history of the pay-per-view, Meltzer has given a rating of 4 or above for all the main events that happened.

The main event of 2009 featuring Edge and Jeff Hardy and the main event of 2010 featuring John Cena and Batista was rated four and a quarter. While 2011 main event between Miz, Cena and John Morrison and the 2013 main event between Triple H and Brock Lesnar was rated four. The 2012 match between Cena and Lesnar was rater four and a half, so this year’s main eventers will have big shoes to fill in.

#2 Undertaker has never competed in Extreme Rules

One straight into the heart of all Undertaker fans, the fact that Taker may never compete in Extreme Rules is something they have to live with. And now the fact that Taker’s streak is over makes it more unlikely.

The pay-per-view has boasted almost every big name that they had in their roster including CM Punk, John Cena, Batista, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, Brock Lesnar, Triple H and Chris Jericho. But Taker’s absence in the list is something shameful since the PPV has been so successful.

After his match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, the chances of Taker returning and competing at Extreme Rules was there in some corner but it was buried when Taker never showed up after that.

Even if Taker makes an appearance at Extreme Rules, the chances of him competing in a match are so slim. From the looks of it, Extreme Rules is just going to be unexplored grounds for the legendary Taker.

#1 John Cena is undefeated

Fans who expected to see Bray Wyatt unleash the monster inside Cena at WrestleMania was disappointed to the core when they saw Cena get the win.

And the same fans will be expecting Bray to get his hands dirty at Extreme Rules when he gets Cena in a steel cage. Well there is some bad news for them.

Cena is undefeated in Extreme Rules.

Cena competed in all five Extreme Rules pay-per-views winning four matches while one ended in a no contest. It might not be something like the Undertaker’s streak, but for someone who predicts on the basis of facts, it is a matter of concern.

If Bray gets a win, it is going to be the best thing to do for business but the only thing that now stands in front of that might be the favor that Cena gets at Extreme Rules.
