In the modern times, social media has played a huge role in the lives of sports stars. The players have often taken to social media in a bid to express their emotions, thoughts and thank fans and alike for their constant support.

However, on some occasions, fans have thrown brickbats at the superstars and have tried to troll them for bad performances, some video/photo tweets etc. While most fans have tried to interact with their idols on the platform, some others have used the portal as a stage to ridicule or troll the stars which have not gone very well.

Using wit and the right judgment, some stars have managed to hit back at the unwanted tweets or remarks and with their replies, shutting down many trolls. Here are some examples.

Not one to shy away from media, Ashwin has also managed to shut down trolls on twitter in the past with ease and here's one occasion when he spun his way through.

Rested for the recently concluded series against England, a fan took the opportunity to troll Ashwin, asking him to learn a thing or two by tuning in to watch Moeen Ali, who got purchase off the wicket and caused problems for the Indian batsmen.

However, Ashwin's reply might have just trapped the fan right in front. The offie went on to say that he purposely tuned in right after the spell, signaling that he had no intentions to pay heed to the troll.

According to reports, the Twitter user repeatedly bothered Jwala using the poke option on Twitter that reached a threshold limit beyond which Jwala forced herself to respond. Enraged at the tweet, Jwala angrily asked the user to 'think twice and then answer' and also lashed out by saying that she had lost complete respect for him.

On further tweets from the user, Jwala lost her cool and threatened to block the user after which he deleted his tweet and sense prevailed.

After the conclusion of the 2016 RIO Olympics, the felicitation ceremonies were being held for the athletes who returned successfully with some laurels for the country. PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik were rewarded for the medals they won while Dipa Karmakar created headlines as the first female gymnast to enter the Olympic finals from India. Amidst all of this, one fan could not fathom Abhinav Bindra's absence from being felicitated and went on to criticize the same.

Taking to Twitter, the fan went on to question Bindra "@Abhinav Bindra Bro why are you missing in all facilitations happening in Delhi? If Deepa is getting such a reception then why can't you?"

— Jasdeep (@jasdeep204) August 29, 2016

which clearly showed his intentions inclined towards ridiculing Bindra to which the shooter calmly and admirably responded by saying that she richly deserved the attention she was getting and he rejoiced in his moment that came in 2008!

Probably one of the best badminton players that India has ever produced, Saina Nehwal has emerged as one of the hottest properties in World Badminton. The former World No.1 has taken giant strides to get to the highest level and that has not excluded some special moments on social media.

Looking at PV Sindhu's exceptional form, a fan took to Twitter and posted a tweet that was directed toward Saina, insisting that it was team she packed her bags as better talent was taking Indian Badminton forward. While the fan would have expected an angry response from Saina, what transpired was quite the opposite.

Saina calmly accepted the remark and went on to compliment Sindhu's achievements toward the sport and added that Indian Badminton was doing well through Sindhu's performances.

The reply completely took the fan by shock as he went on to apologize for the rude remark and also added that he was a big fan of Saina to which she promptly responded with only good wishes.

#1 Virender Sehwag

Australia v India - Tri-Series Game 10

Swashbuckling on the field, witty and whimsical off it. The ex-India opener has made a huge mark on the social media with his witty remarks and trolls of people who have tried to insert unwanted comments. One of the most flamboyant and aggressive batsmen of his time, Sehwag has managed to hit many tweets for six with a mix of humor and professionalism.

Sehwag has often taken to Twitter to express his thoughts and also interact with fans. Famously known for silencing Piers Morgan, one of Sehwag's replies to a fan's false stats evoked peals of laughter.

In a bid to attract the star's attention, a fan expressed his displeasure on Sehwag getting out with scores of 293 (which the fan mentioned as 283) and 319, as he wanted to see Sehwag get to 400.

A couple of hours later, the fan got his reply but in a sarcastic way as Sehwag asked him why he had brought down his score by 10 runs and asked him to research the facts before trying to butter him up!
