Soft tennis has been a part of Asian Games since 1994 Hiroshima, Japan. It was first introduced as a demonstration sports in the 1990 Asian Games held at Beijing, China.
South Korea has been the superior force in Soft Tennis, leading the medal table by a total of 50 medals, including 23 gold. Chinese Taipei are on the second spot with 30 medals, seven of which are gold. Japan sit third on the table with 28 medals, followed by China and Indonesia.
Asian Games 2018 Soft Tennis
The 2018 Asian Games Soft Tennis events will be held at JSC Tennis Court, Palembang, Indonesia from 28 August to 1 September 2018.
Soft Tennis event will include multiple categories like men’s singles, men’s doubles, men’s team, women’s singles, women’s doubles, women’s team and mixed doubles.
2014 Asian Games Tennis Results
The 2014 Asian Game Soft Tennis event was totally dominated by South Korea in all the categories. Korean player Kim Hyeong-jun won the men’s singles event securing a gold, followed by Edi Kusdaryanto of Indonesia.
In the women’s singles category Kim Bo-mi of South Korea won gold by defeating Chen Hui of China. South Korean duo Kim Dong-hoon and Kim Beom-jun won gold against Lin Ting-chun and Li Chia-hung of Chinese Taipei.
Joo Og and Kim Ae-kyung of South Korea defeated fellow countrywomen Yoon Soo-jung and Kim Ji-yeon to secure the gold medal.
India at Asian Games Soft Tennis
India has participated in the Soft Tennis event only once in the 2010 Asian Games which was held at Guangzhou, China. However, the South Asian country failed to earn any medal in the competition.
Indian player Navneet Kumar and Jitender Singh Mehlda failed to advance against Ananda Khamphoumy of Laos and Rahmatullojon Rajabaliev of Tajikistan in the third match of the men’s singles group rounds.
The results were pretty much the same in all other categories of the event.
