The 2nd day of the South Asian Games 2019 is in the history books now as India won 3 Gold medals and opened its account on the standings. Apart from the 3 Golds, the Indian team also won 8 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals.

Talking about India's Gold medal wins first, Adarsha Sinimol won the first Gold for the nation in the men's triathlon event. Bishworjit Srikhom finished right behind him as India secured two medals in the men's Triathlon.

The female Indian athletes could not win the Gold in the triathlon event but Thoudam Sorojini Devi and Mohan Pragnya won the Silver and the Bronze medals, respectively.

India achieved all the remaining medals in the Taekwondo sport. The men's team won the Poomsae event in the 17 to 23 age category while the men also finished at the top in the pair Poomsae event in the 23 to 29 years age group.

The Indian badminton players ruled the roost in Nepal today as the men's and women's teams recorded clean sweeps against Pakistan. Meghna Jakkampudi and Sikki Reddy blanked Javeed Huma and Akram Sheera 2-0 while Gayatri Gopichand squashed Palwasha Bashir 21-14, 21-11. Sai Rao defeated Mahoor Shahzad in straight sets as well.

In the men's badminton event, Krishna Prasad beat Ali Murad 21-19, 21-18 and Sri Sai Varma sent Zahid Awais packing 21-7, 21-7. India is assured of at least two medals in badminton because the men's team and the women's team have progressed to the finale. Besides, a medal is also assured in the volleyball event.

The fans can expect India to topple Nepal for the top spot in the medal tally soon.
