India strengthened their top position in the South Asian Games 2019 Medal Tally as the Indian athletes won 28 gold medals on day 5. Nepal is right behind India with 36 gold medals while Sri Lanka and Pakistan took their gold medal count in the double digits.
Talking about India's performance first, the Indians dominated Wushu event as Uchit Singh (56 kg), Vikranta Baliyan (60 kg), Ravi Panchal (65 kg), Suraj Yadav (70 kg) and Sunil Singh (52 kg) won the gold in their respective categories. On the women's front, Roshibina Devi, Sushila, Deepika and Punam finished with gold in the 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg and 75 kg sections, respectively.
Y. Sanothai Devi captured the gold in Sansou Women's 52 kg whereas the 56 kg's gold medal went in the favour of Nepal's Juni Rai. Besides, India's Suraj Singh won the gold in Men's Gunshu all-round with a score of 19.22 points.
India kicked off the day with silver medals in the mixed table tennis doubles tourney. Later, Karthik Unnikrishnan won the Triple Jump event while Dalabehara Jhilli and Soren Sneha earned the gold medals in Women's Weightlifting.
The Indian shooters captured gold medals in the Men's 10 meter Air Rifle team, Women's 50 meter Air Rifle single and Women's 50 meter Air Rifle team. Indian swimmers dominated the aqua sports with 4 golds, 6 silvers and 1 bronze medal while Sri Lanka took 3 gold medals home in swimming.
Nepal's cyclists won quite a few medals in the day while Pakistan and Sri Lanka picked up a lot of medals in Wushu.

India's medal tally has reached 124 which includes 62 golds, 41 silver medals and 21 bronze medals. Nepal is at the second position with 26 gold medals lesser than India whereas Sri Lanka have more medals than Nepal but their proportion of silvers and bronze medals is very high. On the other side, Bhutan is yet to pick its first gold medal.
