The hosts of South Asian Games 2019, Nepal, dominated the proceedings on the second day of the event as they ended the medal tally at the pole position with 15 gold medals. Nepal also won 3 silver medals and 6 bronze medals across all the events.

Kaji Shrestha won Nepal's first gold medal of the tourney when he won the men's karate event, while Chanchala Danuwar won the silver medal in the female category. Next, Nepal took the gold medals home in the Women's Triathlon event, Women's Team Karate event, Men's Team Karate event, Women's U-23 Taekwondo, Women's U-29 Taekwondo and also in the Women's 29+ Taekwondo events.

The home nation further won six more gold medals in the Taekwondo and Karate sports and claimed first position on the South Asian Games medal tally.

Talking about the performance of other countries, India finished at the second position on the medal count with 3 golds, 8 silvers and 3 bronze medals. India won the gold medal in the Men's Triathlon, Men's U-29 Pair Poomsae Taekwondo and Male Team U-23 Taekwondo.

Sri Lanka too ended the day with 3 gold medals but they won one silver less than India. The Islanders took the gold in the Men's U-23 Taekwondo, Men's U-23 Pair Poomsae Taekwondo and Male Team 23+ Taekwondo.

Pakistan and Bangladesh won two gold medals each while Bhutan and Maldives could not win a single gold medal. Bhutan still managed to win a bronze medal in the Men's U-23 Taekwondo, Maldives could not even open its account.

Day 3 of the South Asian Games will take place tomorrow. India will look to overtake the medal count of the host nation Nepal.
