Velavan Senthilkumar loses in pre-quarterfinals of US Open Squash

National junior champion Velavan Senthilkumar reached the pre-quarterfinal round before exiting in the US Junior open squash championship held in Connecticut. Velavan lost to Mexico’s D. Gomez but not before putting up a brave fight and pushing the match to the distance. The Mexican won 11-8, 15-17, 11-6 , 4-11, 11-2.

Earlier the Indian star junior, a trainee at the Indian Squash Academy, went past Jeremy Barnes of US 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 in the first round. Beating J. Shah (US) 11-7, 11-3, 11-7, Velavan entered the third round in this 128-player draw. The Indian’s next victim was Cembalest also of US in straight games 11-5, 11-6, 11-1.
