Andre Russel lived up to his reputation as a designated death-bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 5 of IPL 2021 against Mumbai Indians (MI). Russel, who came in to ball as late as the 18th over made an immediate impact by dismissing Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen off consecutive deliveries. He followed it up with a three-wicket final over, which saw MI restricted to 152 all out in their 20 overs.

Harshal Patel turned out to be the star performer for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the tournament opener. Used as a fifth bowler by RCB skipper Virat Kohli, Patel ran through the Mumbai Indians (MI) middle order, restricting them to just 159/9. He sent back Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya and Marco Jansen to finish with figures of 5/27.

The eighth match of IPL 2021 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got off to a dramatic start, thanks to a brilliant bowling display from CSK’s Deepak Chahar. He removed PBKS custodians Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda in quick succession and finished the game with figures of 4/27. Chahar also won the Player of the Match award.
