Recently appointed South African Test captain Dean Elgar earns a salary of Rs. 3.2 crore annually. He took over the reins from Quinton de Kock and is yet to captain the side in a match. However, he has captained South Africa twice (2017 and 2019) in the past in the role of a stand-in skipper.

TIM PAINE - 4.8 CR AUS CAPTAIN (TEST)

As per the latest Cricket Australia (CA) contracts, Tim Paine receives a sum of Rs. 4.8 crore every year. The Australian Test captain has come under the radar after his side’s loss to India earlier this year. So far, Paine has led Australia 23 times, and has won 11, lost 8 and drawn 4.

AARON FINCH - 4.8 CR AUS CAPTAIN (ODI, T20I)

Australian white-ball captain Aaron Finch earns the same (Rs. 4.8 crore) salary as his Test counterpart. 34-year-old Finch has led the Australians in 41 ODIs and 44 T20Is respectively. His win percentage in ODIs is 56.09. Meanwhile, in the T20Is it reads 52.38.

VIRAT KOHLI - 7 CR IND CAPTAIN (TEST, ODI, T20I)

It is a little surprising that Virat Kohli comes second in the list considering the revenue generated by BCCI. Nevertheless, Kohli has an A+ category contract with the BCCI and earns Rs. 7 crores annually. Also, the prolific batsman is India’s skipper across all the three formats.

JOE ROOT - 8.9 CR ENG CAPTAIN (TEST)

Joe Root is currently the highest paid international captain with an annual salary of Rs 8.9 crore. England’s Test captain also has been offered a White Ball Central Contract by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which could be the reason why he tops this list.
