WarGames is one of the most destructive yet exciting setups for a wrestling match. Despite the long history of the structure in the industry, it’s still frankly new to WWE.

Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes created the WarGames concept while in NWA. WCW later bought the company, and then WWE bought WCW in 2001.

The first WarGames match under WCW was in February 1991 at WrestleWar. It included The Four Horsemen vs. Sting, Brian Pillman, and The Steiner Brothers.

14 WarGames matches occurred in WCW. The last match was held in September 2000 and featured the likes of Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarrett, Goldberg, and more.

The first WarGames match in WWE took place 16 years after purchasing WCW. It was on NXT Takeover: WarGames in 2017 and crowned The Undisputed Era as the winner.

The first women's WarGames match occurred in the 2019 edition of NXT TakeOver. Rhea Ripley, Cande LeRae, Tegan Nox, and Dakota Kai were crowned champions.
