Juventus’ 15-Point Deduction Explained

The public prosecutors in Italy have been investigating transfer fees paid in Italian football and in April 2022, Juventus were one of the 10 clubs acquitted by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

The prosecutors in Turin launched the Prisma investigation and found out that Juventus had engaged in false accounting and market manipulation.

Italian financial police had raided Juventus’ offices and training ground which resulted in the resignation of the entire club board without admission of guilt.

FIGC reopened the case against the club after gathering evidence that included a black book in which Fabio Paratici had laid out capital gains over the past 2 years.

FIGC recommended a 9-point penalty in the Serie A standings but Juventus got 15 points deducted which pushed them down to 13th on the points table.

11 board members and executives were punished. Andrea Agnelli was given a 24-month ban, former VP Pavel Nedved got 8 months and Fabio Paratici was handed a 2.5-year ban.

The Prisma case’s first hearing is expected to take on March 27 as the investigation proved to be a criminal offense rather than just a sporting offense.
