Although Peyton Manning is often associated with the Colts and Broncos, it's worth noting that he never played for the Chargers. However, he had the opportunity to do so during his career.

In the 1998 NFL Draft, the Colts faced a crucial choice. With the first overall pick, they needed a QB to lead their team. The decision was between Manning from Tennessee & Leaf from Washington State.

While some analysts thought Leaf could have had a superior career and deserved to be picked by the Colts, they ultimately chose Manning. Leaf was then drafted at No. 2 by the Chargers.

Manning later became one of the best players in NFL history with 5 regular-season MVPs, 2 SB MVPs, & SB wins with the Colts & Broncos. He's one of the greatest QBs, among the ranks of Brady & Montana.

Leaf turned out to be one of the biggest draft busts of all time. He played for only 3 seasons, 2 with the Chargers & 1 with the Cowboys, & threw for just 3,666 yards & 14 TDs over 25 games.

The Colts made the correct decision by choosing Manning. But what if they took Leaf instead & Manning went No. 2 to the Chargers, it would have been a devastating scenario for Colts fans to consider.

What if Manning was drafted by the Chargers?

Leaf failed to become a star with the Chargers & likely wouldn't have found success in Colts either. It simply wasn't in the cards for him to be a successful NFL QB, and that's okay.

Manning had excellent offensive support with the Colts. Even if he had played for the Chargers, Manning would have undoubtedly had a brilliant career, regardless of his teammates.
