Nepal to host 2014 Asian Taekwondo Championship in April

The Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (NITF) is all set to host the seventh edition of the Asian Taekwondo Championship from April 18-23, 2014 at Kathmandu, the Nepalese capital city.

According to the NITF, the mega Asian event will be held at the covered hall of the National Sports Council at Kathmandu. 300 players from 20 Asian countries are expected to participate in the championship where the participants will compete for 60 gold medals in four categories – sparring, patron, self-defence and special technique.

The NITF have further stated that 13 countries have already confirmed their participation. Hosts Nepal along with India, China, Taipei, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Macau, Hong Kong, Philippines, and Tajikistan have confirmed their participation in the championship.

The organizers said that the championship is expected to cost Nepalese Rs 4.5 million and they are ready to welcome the players and officials of the participating countries to Nepal.

The rights to host the championship were given to Nepal at the 6th ATF – Asian Taekwondo Federation congress.
