Marc Marquez: A Brief Biography

Marc Marquez

Marc Marquez is a Spanish motorcycle rider currently competing in the MotoGP class with Repsol Honda team.

125cc and 250cc Class

Marc Marquez entered the 125cc class in 2008 and became the youngest Spanish rider to take a pole position and secure a podium. His first two seasons were mediocre at best and managed to claim only two podiums. A switch to the Red Bull Ajo Motorsport team in 2010 saw a change of fortunes for the Spaniard as he managed to win 10 races and secure the championship in some style.

He moved to the 250cc the next year and finished the season in the second place, 23 points behind Stefan Bradl. Marquez stayed in the 250cc class for one more year and claimed the championship with relative ease, finishing 59 points ahead of the second-placed Pol Espargaro.

MotoGP class

Marc Marquez’s entry into the MotoGP class in 2013 was well-documented. Riding for the Repsol Honda, the Spanish rider took the third place in his very first MotoGP Grand Prix in Qatar. Marquez bettered himself and took the win in the following race at Circuit of the Americas at Austin, Texas. Dominant displays continued throughout the season as he managed to secure a podium in every race that he had finished that year. Eventually, the Spanish rider claimed the World Championship in his first season, finishing four points ahead of Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo.

His brilliant performances aided by his aggressive riding style fetched him more victories in the seasons to come. Marquez outdid himself in 2014 and retained his championship with some style. He won the first ten races of the 2014 MotoGP season and picked up three more wins before the season came to a close at Valencia.

Marc Marquez could not put a successful title defence the following year, as the 2015 season was plagued by multiple retirements. His fellow countryman Jorge Lorenzo took the championship while Marquez finished in the third spot. The Spaniard was on top once again in 2016 and 2017, finishing both the seasons with 298 points.

The Spanish rider has a comfortable lead in the 2018 MotoGP Championship and is the favourite to win it for the third successive year. His win at the Sachsenring this year was his sixth consecutive German Grand Prix win in the premier class.

With four MotoGP Championships in his bag, the prolific Spaniard is well on his way to becoming one of the greatest motorcycle riders of all time.

The Networth of Marc Marquez is estimated to be around $35 million.
