Asian Tennis Tour: Nitin Kumar Sinha upsets second seed Ranjeet

Kolkata, Nov 11 (IANS) Local boy and current Under 18 national champion Nitin Kumar Sinha upset second seed V.M. Ranjeet in straight sets in round one of the Asian Tennis Tour here on Friday.

Ranjeet, finalist of the last edition of the tour and ranked 15th in India, lost 5-7 and 2-6 to Nitin.

Nitin broke Ranjeet early and went on to serve at 5-3. Nitin faltered a bit serving at 5-3, 15-0 with two double faults and eventually Ranjeet levelled the match at 5-5.

Nitin unleashed some great attacking ground strokes to break again at 6-5 and then retained serve to clinch the set 7-5.

In the second set, Nitin broke Ranjeet early, and pocketed the match easily.

In another exciting match of the day, 43-year-old veteran Nitin Kirtane showed character fighting back from 0-5 down in the second set opposite Sanil Jagtiani.

Nitin came back strongly and went on to win the match in tiebreak 6-4, 7-6(7).
