Nadal, Federer, Murray through to Rogers Cup quarters

Roger Federer will have a tougher tast in hand when he faces Tomas Berdych in the next match

Rafael Nadal recorded a 6-2 , 7-6 victory over South African Kevin Anderson at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Nadal will face Philip Kohlschreiber in the next round against whom he enjoys a 7-0 winning record. Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic also progressed to the quarters.

Federer defeated Michael Llodra 7-6, 6-3 while Djokovic downed Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-4. The 16-time major champ moved on in 79 minutes. Federer captured this Canadian Masters event in 2004 and 2006 and was the runner-up in 2007. Up next for Federer will be Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych, who has beaten the super Swiss in their last two meetings, including a quarterfinal match at the Wimbledon last month.

Andy Murray had a difficult outing against Gael Monfils of France, eventually winning by two sets to one. Murray defeated Gael Monfils 6-2, 0-6, 6-3. He faces David Nalbandian in the next round who overcame Robin Soderling 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Nalbandian returned to tennis last week after a long time away from the circuit but outplayed the fifth seed Soderling.

Meanwhile, Davydenko was dumped out by Jeremy Chardy in straight sets. With the big four progessing to the quarters the later stages of the tournament promises for another classic. In the doubles Leander Paes and Lucas Dlouhy bowed out in straight sets while Bhupathi and Miryni moved to quarters in straight sets.
