In a recent interview, NextGen superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas confessed that his goal is to one day be the highest-ranked tennis player in the world. However, he did confess that at the current stage of his career, feeling comfortable on the court is the most important thing for him.

Tsitsipas set the tennis world alight this year by winning the ATP World Tour finals in his debut appearance, beating Roger Federer en route to the title. Though Alexander Zverev was initially the poster boy for the NextGen, that title now belongs to Tsitsipas, who is deemed the biggest threat to the Big 3 going into 2020.

The Greek star closed 2019 in style and given his talent and age, it does look as though we are looking at a player who is going to be wildly successful in the future. With so many expectations on the youngster, it was interesting to hear what his own goals are for his career.

Tsitsipas was reported as saying:

"My goal is to become the world No. 1 at some point. But for me, the most important thing is to feel comfortable when I am competing on the court."

It is nice to hear that Tsitsipas is ambitious with his sporting goals and given how talented he is, there is no surprise that he has set his sights so high.

As well as discussing his ambitions in tennis, Tsistipas talked about the role in which his father, also a tennis coach, plays in allowing him to have the success that he is currently enjoying. He said:

"The more I play, the better I feel. My father makes me feel better, he gives me confidence and I know that with his help I will be doing very well in the future. He is calm and he gives me good suggestions so that I can handle myself."

It is good to hear this from Tsitsipas as it shows that not only is he ambitious and talented, but he is surrounded by a good group of people who make sure that he is psychologically motivated, whilst also keeping him grounded.

It seems only a matter of time that the Greek giant goes on to win a Grand Slam title and it may just happen next year. The Big 3 may still be dominating at the Grand Slams, having won all of them since 2017, but the NextGen is knocking at the door and may just break through it in 2020.
