The Tax Collector is a Hardmode Terraria NPC that will earn the player money by taxing other NPCs. He will attack nearby enemies with his cane and he serves as a reference to Ebenezer Scrooge from the Christmas Carol. All of his potential names are the names of famous U.S. politicians who were either president or vice president.
The Tax Collector loves living near the Merchant, likes the Princess and the Party Girl, dislikes the Demolitionist and Mechanic, and hates living near Santa Claus.
The Tax Collector can be obtained by throwing Purification Powder on a Tortured Soul. The Tax Collector will then move in once there is a house available for him.
The Tax Collector will earn the player money by taxing other NPCs. He will earn the player 50 copper for each in-game hour. He can store up to 10 gold, after which he will stop earning money until the player has collected the money. The player can collect money from the Tax Collector at any time since there is no minimum amount to collect.
The Tax Collector is a useful NPC for his ability to collect money for the player. The only way to maximize the Tax Collector’s happiness early in the game is to put him with the Merchant and Party Girl in the Snow biome, which will unfortunately make both the Merchant and the Party Girl unhappy. Later in the game, the Party Girl can be replaced by the Princess.
A. The amount of money the Tax Collector collects depends on the number of NPCs currently residing in houses in the game. With 20 town NPCs, the Tax Collector will collect 2 gold and 40 silver per in-game day or about 10 silver every in-game hour. With 25 town NPCs, the Tax collector will collect 3 gold per in-game day, though when Santa is in the world during Christmas, the Tax Collector will collect 3 gold and 12 silver per day.
