Jack Harlow

Jackman Thomas Harlow (b. March 13, 1998), popularly known by his stage name Jack Harlow, is an American rapper from Louisville, Kentucky. His easy-going combination of humility and swagger has allowed him to step into the spotlight in a predominantly Black genre. Harlow began his music career in 2015. Over the years he has released several EPs and mixtapes and was eventually signed to Generation Now, Don Cannon, and DJ Drama’s record label in 2018, which is an offshoot of Atlantic Records. Harlow is accredited as being the co-founder of Private Garden. Vox, in an article, described Harlow's music as breezy and easy to listen to.

Jack Harlow was born on 13 March 1998 to an upper-middle-class Christian family in Shelbyville, Kentucky. As per a GQ article, Harlow is American by nationality and has a mixed French and Irish ethnicity. Harlow’s father, Brian Harlow, and mother Maggie Harlow are both entrepreneurs and run their own businesses together. Jack also has a younger brother named Clayborn Harlow.

Harlow attended Highland Middle School and completed his high school graduation from Atherton High School in 2016. As per a report by Louisville, Harlow developed an interest in music from a very young age thanks to his mother’s love for music, who used to listen to rap music. At the age of 12, Harlow’s parents shifted along with their family to Louisville, and that was where a young Jack started his own rapping career.

While Jack was in middle school, he along with his friend Copelan would use a Guitar Hero mic to record rhymes and songs. Harlow’s first mixtape technically came out when he decided to burn a CD, title it “Rippin' and Rappin” and tried to sell copies at their Highland Middle School. Harlow managed to get his hands on a professional microphone when he was in the seventh grade and made his first ‘official’ mixtape titled Extra Credit under the name, “Mr.Harlow”. Harlow and a bunch of his friends formed a collective and called themselves the “Moose Gang”. Along with the Moose Gang, Harlow worked on two mixtapes, namely Moose Gang and Music for the Deaf, both of which unfortunately never saw the light of day.

Harlow's first major breakthrough came five years later when he released his 2020 single, "Whats Poppin". Aided by its popularity on TikTok, it peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and went on to receive a Grammy Award nomination. He was also an inductee of XXL’s class of 2020 even before his debut studio album, That's What They All Say, was released.

Harlow’s first chart-topper came the following year, when his collaboration with Lil Nas X, "Industry Baby", peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song became viral on TikTok. Harlow decided to cash in on his newfound stardom and release his second album, Come Home the Kids Miss You in 2022, with its single, "First Class", becoming viral on TikTok as well. This further helped the track debut atop the Hot 100 and earned Harlow his second number-one song on the coveted Billboard chart.

Harlow has received several award nominations from various institutions, including Top New Artist at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. In the same year, he was named Variety’s "Hitmaker of the Year" and was included in Forbes 30 Under 30. Earlier this year, it was announced that Harlow will make his acting debut in a remake of the 1992 film White Men Can't Jump directed by Calmatic as reported by Deadline.
