Jason Joel Desrouleaux (born September 21, 1989), also known as Jason Derulo, is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Since his debut as a singer in 2009, he has sold over 30 million singles worldwide and has achieved eleven Platinum singles including hits like "Wiggle", "Talk Dirty", "Want to Want Me", "Trumpets", "It Girl", "In My Head", "Ridin' Solo", and "Whatcha Say".

Derulo was born in Miramar, Florida to Haitian parents. Derulo's first language was Creole. He started singing at a very young age. He attended various performing arts schools in Florida, like The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and tried his hand at music composition, writing his first song at eight years of age. Jason Derulo started his career initially by writing songs for other artists like Diddy, Danity Kane, Donnie Klang, Sean Kingston, Cassie, and Lil Wayne. Even around this time he had full intentions of becoming a solo performer.

Derulo won the Grand Prize on the season finale of the TV show Showtime at the Apollo in 2006. Following this, Derulo was signed by music producer J.R. Rotem to his record label Beluga Heights Records, which was under Warner Bros. Records.


In 2009, Jason released his debut single, “Whatcha Say”, which sampled Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek”. It went to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2009 and subsequently his debut album, which was titled Jason Derülo, released in March 2010. He also toured as the opening act of Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour to promote his album.


In 2011, he released his second studio album Future History. It did very well on the European charts and he had also planned to tour the UK subsequently, which was later cancelled due to his vertebrae injury. He also recorded a duet with Demi Lovato on their album Unbroken.


On March 28, 2012, Derulo made an appearance on American Idol, making an announcement that he would allow fans to help him finish the lyrics for a new song entitled "Undefeated", as part of a three-way collaboration between him, American Idol and Coca-Cola. Fans were given the chance to submit their own lyrics to complete the song, and were also given the option to vote on which lyrics they liked the most out of all the submissions.

In late 2012, he founded his own label named Future History.


In 2013, he released his third studio album called Tattoos. It contained the hit single “Talk Dirty”, which peaked at no.3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The album features rapper 2 Chainz and is the first single from Derulo to contain a feature artist. The album was released in August 2013.


Six months after the release of Tattoos, Derulo announced in March 2014, that he would be releasing a repackaged album with 4 newly recorded songs and 7 from the Tattoos album. It would have different artwork and be re-titled Talk Dirty. Talk Dirty was released on April 15, 2014.


In 2015, Jason became a judge on the American dance reality series “So You Think You Can Dance?” alongside judges Paula Abdul and Nigel Lythgoe.


In March 2015, Derulo released the first single from his fourth studio album, Everything Is 4, called "Want To Want Me", which became the most-added track in the history of Top 40 radio. It was added to 156 monitored pop stations, making it the biggest Top 40 US radio debut in 2015. It peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the UK Singles Chart.


In 2016, Jason released a Greatest Hits album with a new single called “Kiss The Sky”, which was featured in the animated movie Storks. The album featured 11 platinum singles.


On September 28, 2016, Derulo made a cameo appearance in an episode of the Fox drama Lethal Weapon.


In 2017, he released the singles titled “Swalla” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign, and “Tip Toe” featuring French Montana, which ranked number one at charts across the world.


In 2018, he released a single named “Goodbye”, with David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and Willy William.


In 2019, he collaborated with Lay Zhang of EXO and K-Pop band NCT 127 to release a single named “Let’s Shut Up & Dance”. The single was meant to be a tribute to the late Michael Jackson.


He later released the part of his fifth studio album 2Sides, called Side 1 in November 2019. Side 2 was supposed to be released in 2020, but in the same year, he left Warner Bros Records citing irreconcilable creative differences, thereby cancelling the release of Side 2.


His first single after his departure from Warner Bros Records was “Savage Love (Laxed-Siren Beat)” with Jawsh 685. It went viral on TikTok in June 2020, and the remix made by BTS made it to no.1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In February 2021, he signed with Atlantic Records, and in May 2021, he was featured in a remix of “Jalebi Baby” by Indo-Canadian artist Tesher.


In 2022, he released his latest single “Slidin’ Back'' featuring rapper Kodak Black.


He has done a number of brand endorsements, namely FIFA, Coca-Cola, Bedlam Vodka, and Jack In The Box among others.


Other than his music ventures, he has also ventured into acting in movies like Cats. He is also set to play musician Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers in the upcoming biopic Spinning Gold.
