Aurelia Dobre is a Romanian-American retired artistic gymnast, social media influencer, content creator, and celebrity mother who emerged as the 1987 all-around champion at the 24th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Apart from fetching the gold medal as the world all-around champion in 1987, she also garnered a gold medal as the world champion in the balance beam round. Dobre was believed to be the youngest gymnast to become the world all-around champion, having competed at the event at the age of 14 years and 352 days. However, it was later discovered that Soviet gymnast Olga Bicherova, whose age was falsified at the 1981 ‘World Championships,’ was actually the youngest winner of the title, having won it at age 13.

Dobre then prepared for the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, but she had to undergo a knee surgery before the event. The artistic gymnastics events of the Summer Olympics that year were held from September 18 to September 25, at Seoul’s Olympic Gymnastics Hall. Although Dobre did not win any individual medal, she remained part of the silver-winning Romanian team.

Dobre then went on to win the silver medal as part of the Romanian team at the 25th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, held in Stuttgart, West Germany, from October 14, 1989, to October 22, 1989. The promising career of this gifted gymnast came to an end after she suffered two major injuries and a growth spurt.
After her retirement from gymnastics, Aurelia created controversy when she posed nude for the September issue of Playboy Netherlands in 1991. She also gave a critical interview to this American men's lifestyle and entertainment magazine and criticized the gymnastics program of Romania of the communist era. She received an award during the centennial celebration of the ‘Romanian Gymnastics Federation’ in 2006. She was also recognized formally among Romanian gymnasts who had garnered a “perfect 10.” Dobre’s achievements and contributions in the game led her to be inducted into the ‘International Gymnastics Hall of Fame,’ located in Oklahoma City, US, in May 2016.
