Goa Triathlon at Bambolim Beach on February 16, 2014

The Goa Triathlon will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at the Bambolim Beach, close to the capital city of Panaji. The clean and clear waters at one of Goa’s safest beaches will play host to numerous triathletes who will be swimming, biking and running their way through Goa’s elite Dona Paula area.

There will be both team and individual events at the Goa Triathlon.

The event is scheduled to start at 0600 hrs in the morning near the Grand Hyatt hotel at Bambolim.

The details of each of the events are as follows:

TEAM EVENT

In the team event, three different members can take up each of the tasks – swimming, biking, running. Each does his or her own thing and if they do it well enough, they stand a chance of walking away with the grand prize.

INDIVIDUAL EVENT

This is for the iron-men who are willing to do it all themselves. It will be a proper Olympic-length triathlon with the swimming competition happening in the sea and not in some lake, and the biking and running routes too will include some challenging trails.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: SWIM, BIKE, RUN

Here’s a breakup of how the individual events will pan out:

1.5km swim: The swimmers will start from the beach, swim out 750m, around a prominent marker buoy or boat, and then head back to the beach.

40km biking: The bikers need to run 200m out to the road 200m from the beach. Mounting their cycles, they do need to do four laps of a 10km circuit around Bambolim Beach – Dona Paula – Miramar – Dona Paula.

10km run: One lap of the above circuit with a grand finish on the beach.

SAFETY

The Goa Yachting Association (GYA) will provide rescue boats, ‘Drishti’ will provide trained lifeguards and Jet Skis, and there will be close cover kayak support along the entire swimming course.

There will be volunteers at every kilometre on the running / biking route. Rehydration / nutrition stations will be put up at every 2km. Vehicles with bike stands will pick up those unable to continue. A doctor will be in attendance at the beach and a 108 Ambulance will be on call.

The entry charge for people willing to participate is Rs400 for individual entry and Rs600 for team entry.
