The U20 squad that will be travelling to Poland

The Indian U20 Ultimate Frisbee team is all set to compete at the World U20 Championships at Wroclaw next month and ahead of the competition, two key members from the team and the member of the managing team spoke to Sportskeeda on the challenges faced by them, their preparations and more.

Surender, Member of the U20 Ultimate team: I think we have a good chance of doing well at the World Championships. There is an open team in Chennai, they are senior to us. They are the best team at present and we beat them in Bengaluru recently. So we are confident about doing well at the competition next month.

Kamlesh Gamit, Member U20 team: We are working very hard for the event. In fact, as I speak to you I am attending a training camp.Ultimate Frisbee is a very spirited game and initially when I began playing the sport, I didn’t know a lot about it.

But steadily, with the help of my coaches, I came up the ranks, competing in the Under-16s, the Under-19s and now will be heading to represent India at the World Championships. While Ultimate Frisbee may not be a popular sport at the moment, it certainly has the potential to do well in the future.

Chiai Uruguchi, Member, Managing team, World Junior Ultimate Championships: The boys practice 3-4 times in a week and the coaches are working very hard with them. All of them are teenagers and are very talented. They lacked the discipline at the start, but we taught them that.

My expectations from them are that I expect them to present their spirit and learn the same from others. The event will be held in Wroclaw and it would serve as a great exposure for them and hopefully, the experience will empower them.
