Best And Worst of Hell In A Cell

Hell In A Cell certainly had more good than bad
Hell In A Cell certainly had more good than bad

When you pick quality over quantity, chances are the show will not be a dud. I loved the fact that Hell in a Cell only had a handful of matches unlike SummerSlam last month. This is the model NXT follows- quality matches and storylines, over quantity. I personally thought that this was a very good show.

Of course, I daresay that the show was far from perfect. There was much that I did not particularly care for. I will detail all of them in my 'Best and Worst' list here.

As always, I am curious to hear what you guys thought of the event, so let me know your thoughts down below. Did you think that Hell in a Cell was everything it promised to be?

Of course, I cannot cover every detail in this article, so pardon me if I leave some matches out.

#1 Best: Lynch has her moment

I was truly glad to see Becky Lynch defeat Flair for the title
I was truly glad to see Becky Lynch defeat Flair for the title

How often is it that WWE gives the audience what they want? Not very often, right? Therefore, I was thrilled to see the company go with the fans' wishes and put the strap on Becky Lynch this week. This was after a hard-fought match between her and Charlotte Flair.

A double turn would have been perfect for Hell in a Cell. This is because the crowd was behind Becky Lynch to win the contest, all through the match. The two women gave it their all and reminded us just how good they both are.

No offense to Carmella, but this is the kind of wrestling that the women needed to showcase before Evolution, I thought. The in-ring aspect of the SmackDown Women's Division had been lost under Carmella's reign.

Maybe the double turn will happen on SmackDown Live, this very week!

#1 Worst: Foley's botch

Mick Foley made a critical error during the Universal Championship match when he counted to three. The announcers tried to cover up his botch, but it was plain as day. Braun Strowman was the Universal Champion as per the officiating during the main event match. It was a rather embarrassing display.

This wasn't the only botch that Mick Foley made during his brief WWE stint. He referred to the Hell in a Cell as a 'denomic' and not a 'demonic' structure.

#2 Best: A very non PG match

I personally thought the first HIAC match was better
I personally thought the first HIAC match was better

Hell in a Cell is a watered down affair for a long time WWE fan. Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton reminded us just how brutal the match can be. The ear twist spot with the screwdriver was absolutely brutal, for those who watched it.

And the punishment would not stop there, as both men took an extraordinary amount of punishment inside the structure. The referee was a part of the proceedings too, and he seemed visibly concerned at various points during the night. The drama was palpable during the contest.

Two veterans reminded us just how good they both really are. And how they both lay everything on the line, simply for our viewing pleasure.

#2 Worst: Burying the WWE Championship

Shouldn't this match have gone on later?
Shouldn't this match have gone on later?

On paper, AJ Styles should be the most important champion in WWE. However, WWE keeps proving to us how little the championship means, time and time again. Did the company have to book AJ Styles' match in the middle of the show at Hell in a Cell?

The match was great, of course. I also thought that the two men told a great story, even considering the finish. However, I just wish the match had been placed higher. SmackDown Live feels like a less important show with every passing day.

#3 Best: Brock Lesnar's return

I thought this was a great way to end the pay-per-view
I thought this was a great way to end the pay-per-view

Backstage reports had emerged about the Beast Incarnate being present at the era. And even then, when he stepped out, it was a really big deal. This puts an end to the speculation of whether Lesnar will do just UFC or both WWE and UFC, in the coming months. I wonder when the big rematch with Lesnar and Reigns will be announced.

Whether you like it or not, Lesnar is a superstar. And his involvement will certainly get audiences to tune in and watch RAW, which is the point.

#3 Worst: The red cell

I did not particularly care about the cell's look this year
I did not particularly care about the cell's look

The Hell in a Cell looked fine to me in all the events of the past. There was really no need to change things up. I just thought that the red cell looked a little too garish. The metallic cell just looked a lot more painful.

Did you guys think otherwise? Let me know in the comments. Am I just being too picky about this?

#4 Best/worst: The Shield not holding all the gold

What a great match both teams had
What a great match both teams had

The narrative heading into Hell in a Cell was that The Shield would hold all the gold on RAW, after the event. This did not happen. While it could have been a cool storyline, I'm cool with it not happening. Maybe there's a plan for the same to happen down the line.

It will also allow multiple storylines to be told. Maybe there will be yet another tag team challenging Ziggler and McIntyre after this match!

#4 Best/worst: Leaving many worthy talents out

Did a lot of storylines not get their payoff?
Did a lot of storylines not get the right payoff?

WWE currently employs a lot of talent, many of whom did not make it to Hell in a Cell. In my opinion, this is okay. And it is okay because 'quality over quantity' any day, like I said. That said, it's sad to see superstars like Lashley and Owens not make it to the show.

Maybe they will get their due in Australia. One can certainly hope they do. Because otherwise, RAW may feel like a whole lot of filler.

What did you guys think of the show? Was it deserving of the praise I've heaped upon it?

Let me know in the comments, with a little prayer to the Goddess of WWE!
