Best and Worst of RAW - 2 July, 2018

This week's episode of RAW had good and bad moments
This week's episode of RAW had good and bad moments

I'll be honest before I start this week's RAW review. There wasn't a lot that I enjoyed during the course of the three hours. True, some of the action was good, but there was a lot of filler as well. It was a set-up episode for Extreme Rules, but not necessarily a very effective one!

It's time to list out the best and worst from this week's show. I invite you guys to leave a comment and let me know what you dug from the show, and what you did not. Did you folks enjoy the show more than I did?

Speaking for myself, I'm not really thrilled about Extreme Rules yet. The matches do look promising but nothing on RAW is really very exciting right now.

Here is my assessment of this week's action!

#1 Best: Match of the night

Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are always great when they team up
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are always great when they team up

Like him or not, Roman Reigns has to be the MVP of WWE. He wrestled in the two most memorable matches of the night and put on a great performance every single time. In his first match, he teamed up with Seth Rollins to take on Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. The result was a pretty fabulous contest.

Yes, the result was a no-contest because of interference from The Revival. It was still a fabulous match and the crowd was invested in it from start to finish. It is quite clear that they are setting up the seeds for a match between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre, in due course of time.

Personally, I'm quite kicked to see Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins compete in an Iron Man match at Extreme Rules. This match could potentially steal the show, if the two men plot out an exciting contest.

#1 Worst: Legitimate injuries

Sadly, The Eater of Worlds was nowhere to be seen, this week!
Sadly, The Eater of Worlds was nowhere to be seen, this week!

Bray Wyatt and Ruby Riott are both injured. This is in addition to Nakamura, Jason Jordan, Dean Ambrose and others who're currently battling injuries of their own. We all know that sports entertainment is a business where injuries are a part of everyday life. It is still disappointing to see these superstars miss action because of the same!

At Sportskeeda Wrestling, we wish all the superstars a very speedy recovery and do hope they can make it back sooner than later.

#2 Best: Good setup for big match

I loved the fact that Lashley wasn't tagged in
I loved the fact that Lashley wasn't tagged in

Somehow, The Revival have made themselves a part of the Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley storyline They suffered a loss during the first week, scored an upset win during the second week and presumably from a lack of fresh ideas, were booked in yet another match with Lashley and Reigns. Two men who do not like each other.

It was clear from the start that Reigns and Lashley did not get along. This was reinforced by the fact that Reigns would not tag Lashley in. As The Revival destroyed Reigns as a unit, Lashley walked away.

Is the Extreme Rules match between Lashley and Reigns an unofficial Number 1 contender's match? I think so.

#2 Worst: Bad humour

A lot of the humour this week did not hit the spot
A lot of the
humour
this week did not hit the spot

Sasha Banks and Bayley were sent to counselling as a result of their altercation last week. Somehow, their interactions seemed rather forced and unfunny.

The same can be said about the B Team's imitation of Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy. The same jokes happened three weeks in a row! Needless to say, all the comedy this week did not hit the mark.

#3 Best: Locked in the toilet

In my opinion, this was the best thing in the show!
In my opinion, this was the best thing on the show!

I'm sure that you're all questioning the fact that I enjoyed toilet humour when I did not appreciate the other humour segments. The difference in this case is how good both performers were! Kevin Owens and Braun Strowman embrace comedy while such is not the case with Sasha Banks and Bayley. The two women were miscast!

The visual of Braun Strowman lugging a porta-potty was quite memorable. I'm sure this is one incident that will live on in RAW infamy. My one word for the hour- BRAUNNNNN!

#3 Worst: Jinder Mahal's current booking

They have finally hindered the Jinder
They have finally hindered the Jinder

It is almost impossible to elevate a superstar to main event status in a convincing manner anymore. Despite the wishes of the WWE Universe,WWE pushed Jinder Mahal to the top. Bear in mind that he was in a program with Roman Reigns until Money in the Bank. WWE seems to have completely abandoned the Maharaja right now.

His 'shanti' gimmick certainly isn't doing him any favours. I think Mahal is back to being little more than enhancement talent again. At least he's not sitting pretty while the Riott Squad breaks his camera during a photo shoot!

#4 Best/worst: Balor vs. Corbin

Step up for Corbin, step down for Balor
Step up for Corbin, step down for Balor

I'm glad that Baron Corbin finally has some kind of a role. He has seemed a little lost in the shuffle since he was unable to cash in his Money in the Bank contract. A program with Balor certainly is a big step up for him.

As for Finn Balor, I wonder if it is a worthy feud. Fan interest in him is waning by the week. The first ever Universal Champion is hardly the man he debuted as.

All said and done, this feels like a fresh feud. I'll give it a chance to see where it goes, before commenting on it.

As always, let's end the article with a prayer to The Goddess.
