10 current WWE Superstars who have released music

Some Superstars love the stage!
Some Superstars love the stage!

Some wrestlers are just that, wrestlers - and it's not a bad thing by any means, but performing in the squared circle just simply isn't enough for some Superstars who love the stage.

Some wrestlers are synonymous with song. Chris Jericho, for example, fronting Fozzy - and of course Elias who uses the ring as his stage on a weekly basis.

Of course, some wrestlers just transcend their preferred artform and release music as some kind of outlet, and there are no less than ten Superstars in WWE who have all released music - for better or worse.

Chris Jericho, of course, is now the AEW World Champion, so he's exempt from the list - but don't worry, there's no shortage.

From the awfully wonderful to the wonderfully awful, and there are surprisingly more of the former - but we'll let you decide. Here are ten current WWE Superstars who have released music with their very own vocals gracing the track!

#10 The Undertaker

We're going way back to 1993 to pick out this gem, and of course we're starting with the most unlikely, bizarre option possible on this list.

The Man In Black was the name of an iconic Johnny Cash song, but someone arguably as iconic as the legendary country musician also released music under the same moniker.

The Deadman's vocals are...perhaps as you would expect, but the song most definitely is not!

The Man In Black was released as part of WrestleMania: The Album and quite frankly has to be heard to be believed. The Undertaker sings, ahem, the words, "Slam, jam, death," over a funky '80s beat.

One other fun fact, Simon Cowell actually served as an Executive Producer for the label this song was released under, at the time it was released.

#9 Naomi

Naomi, of course, is known for being an incredibly talented dancer as well as a wrestler, but 2014 saw the Feel The Glow Superstar become a Triple Threat - pardon the pun!

Dance All Night is Naomi's only single to date, released under her real name of Trinity Fatu.

WWE produced the song and even released the video via YouTube where it's stacked up a monumental 3 million views!

Husband Jimmy Uso also makes a cameo, while the former SmackDown Women's Champion's dancing ability is showcased for all to see!

#8 Maria Kanellis

Going back to 2010 now, Maria Kanellis actually released an EP!

Fantasy was perhaps the hit song from the release, named Seven Sins.

Kanellis has cited Evanescence as a musical inspiration, and it's pretty clear to hear through the song.

Seven Sins is a pretty eclectic album, and Kanellis released it shortly after her own release from WWE where the former 24/7 Champion claimed that her music and other non-wrestling endeavours may have played a part in her being released from WWE.

Maria Kanellis has since returned to WWE, but has only been used sporadically and will shortly be taking some time off as she is expecting her second child!

#7 Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy is an incredibly expressive person - from painting his face in WWE, to actually painting on canvas and of course releasing music.

The Charismatic Enigma recently released Individuals from his latest EP - his third in total. Hardy has also released three albums to date, but hasn't yet accompanied any of his material with a music video - although he does go on mini tours and play several live shows!

Hardy's last full-length release was named Precession of the Equinoxes, released in 2017, featuring 14 songs.

#6 Lio Rush

Lio Rush was our very first guest on Dropkick DiSKussions where he opened up all about his music career to us.

Since then, The Man of the Hour has dropped a second single - and it's very different to what everyone was expecting with some slower, sultry, more poignant vocals.

It was something that I definitely wanted to put out as a project. I didn't know what exactly I wanted to do with it or when I wanted to put it out, but I've always written poetry, and this was right.

I had also previously asked Rush if he planned on releasing more music.

Eventually, I will put out more music - especially with the reaction and the responses that I've been getting over the last couple of days, which have been super overwhelming, but in a good way. The responses have been positive. I'm glad that everybody is enjoying it and, yeah, I definitely want to put out more. I feel like this is something that I was meant to do - as well as wrestling - because I come from a musical family, so it's cool to step into the music industry.

#5 R-Truth

Now, it should come as no surprise that R-Truth has an interest in music. After all, he sings his own entrance theme and even raps on the way to the ring!

To date, R-Truth has released two studio albums and several singles under his real name of Ron Killings, including hit single That'z Endurance in 2018, featuring Mannish Mania.

Truth doesn't just transcend wrestling, his music actually mirrors the narrative occasionally - as noted with songs Dance Break and For Little Jimmy.

#4 Elias

Now, it should come as no surprise that Elias is a musician - he literally sings songs and plays guitar on RAW on a weekly basis!

What may come as more of a surprise, though, is that WWE actually released an EP of Elias' music back in 2018, titled WWE: Walk With Elias.

On the first day of its release, the EP hit number 13 on the iTunes Top 100 US albums. While the tracks are technically in character, they're much more intricate than the material we hear during Elias' in-ring schtick.

Walk With Elias: The Documentary was even released on WWE Network - a This Is Spinal Tap-type mockumentary - but Elias' musical talent is no joke, as Fender even endorsed the former NXT man!

#3 Mark Andrews

youtube-cover

If you're not up on your pop-punk music, you might only know Mark Andrews as the Welsh high-flyer from NXT UK, but the man who's now one half of the NXT UK Tag Team Champions is actually also the bassist and co-lead vocalist of Junior.

Performing alongside Matt Attard, the man behind Hot Tag Media Works, and Si Martin of the Heads Above The Waves mental health charity, the NXT UK Superstar just got off a tour in support of debut full-length album Beautiful Life - an album featuring PYD, which has an accompanying video starring Ruby Riott, Adam Cole, Drake Maverick, Ali, Rhea Ripley, Will Ospreay, Jimmy Havoc, Marty Scurll and many others.

Not only this, but their single Brick By Brick was also the NXT Loud theme for NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff - where Andrews won tag team gold! I also caught up with the band on Episode 2 of Dropkick DiSKussions.

We accepted a long time ago that we were never going to be in the same situation as other bands. We're never going to be able to climb the ladder of the music industry in the same way that other bands do, be able to tour constantly, but I kind of like that in a way because it's a bit different.

#2 John Cena

Where do we start with John Cena? We all know he has rapping prowess in abundance from his Doctor of Thuganomics days, and Cena released a number of songs - most of which were used in WWE in some fashion.

Basic Thuganomics was Cena's fifth theme, performed by himself, and he also recorded Untouchables for a WWE music release. John Cena would then release You Can't See Me, his debut album, with cousin Tha Trademarc which featured current theme The Time Is Now.

As late as 2014, Cena was still making music - recording All Day with Wiz Khalifa for the WWE 2K15 soundtrack. Even now, we're still treated to the odd rap from the 16-time World Champion, as seen when he was provoked by The Usos on the RAW Reunion.

#1 Mickie James

Mickie James is probably a first-ballot Hall of Famer when it comes to her wrestling career, not that she's giving up any time soon - but the six-time Women's Champion is a current Hall of Famer when it comes to her music!

In 2017, James was inducted into The Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame and received a Nammy for Song of the Year for Shooting Blanks. One year later, she also won Best Single Recording for her song Left Right Left.

Mickie James has been making country music since 2010 with hits such as Somebody's Gonna Pay and Hardcore Country - which was as James' entrance music in Impact Wrestling.

In 2014, James collaborated with country artist Cowboy Troy and James Storm on a song titled Is Everybody Doing OK, which is featured on Cowboy Troy's album, King of Clubs.

The video for Somebody's Gonna Pay stars long-time rival, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus and Mickie's husband Nick Aldis. Another WWE Hall of Famer, Jeff Jarrett, also taught the former WWE Women's Champion how to swing a guitar for the video.

Much like Jeff Hardy and Mark Andrews, Mickie James is no stranger to touring, and has supported Montgomery Gentry, Randy Houser, Gretchen Wilson and Rascal Flatts.
