10 of the best wrestling costumes

Lo
Los Matadores and El Torito

The world of professional wrestling has its own dress code, but that code is far from uniform (pun intended).

At any given time, when you turn on wrestling, you might see a man in blue jeans, a guy in traditional tights, and a masked wrestler in full body spandex that would make any Olympic bobsledder proud.

And that's okay in the world of wrestling!

Wrestling has always been diverse as part of its marketing strategy. Don't like the patriotic muscle-bound guy? There's a disaffected loner in black jeans who you might cheer for, or a post-apocalyptic tattooed warrior who you might fancy.

That being said, there are some wrestling outfits that stand apart for a variety of reasons. Here are ten wrestlers whose outfits we just can't tear our eyes away from.

#10 Gorgeous George

Gorgeous George was one of the TV era's first mega stars.
Gorgeous George was one of the TV era's first megastars

He came to threaten the masculinity of America, and boy did he ever succeed!

Gorgeous George was a standout in the world of wrestling not just because of his ability, but because his gimmick was so far ahead of its time. In an environment filled with hairy, hyper-masculine grapplers, George chose to be effete and dainty.

His long, flowing robes were often adorned with feathers or flowers, and he never dared to set foot in the ring until it had been thoroughly doused in perfume. His antics riled up the ultra-conservative crowds of his era, but it was his unique look that sold the gimmick.

#9 Finn Balor

Finn Balor's Demon character

Finn Balor is a handsome man, who could possibly be an underwear model if he so chose to pursue that career. Which makes it surprising that he sometimes covers his entire body in paint and becomes the Demon King.

Finn's different makeup designs are breathtaking, innovative, and fit his persona perfectly. Oftentimes, a wrestler wears paint and fancy outfits to draw attention away from the fact that they can't actually wrestle very well, but Balor is one of the best in the world at his craft.

Combined with his showy entrance, Balor's Demon costume is one of wrestling's finest.

#8 La Parka

La Parka, now known as L.A. Parka due to copyright issues.
La Parka, now known as L.A. Parka due to copyright issues.

The character of La Parka has its origins in the Mexican El Dia de Lost Muertos celebration -- the day of the dead -- in which loved ones return from the afterlife to spend time with the living.

La Parka the wrestler doesn't seem too focused on such things. His main concerns seem to be dancing and jamming on his steel chair like it was an electric guitar before he clobbers someone's brains out with it!

The Skull Captain has a fantastic look, which instantly draws attention to him The fact that he looks scary but has silly dancing antics only endears him further to the fans.

#7 Los Conquistadors

The Conquistadors
The Conquistadors

The Conquistadors -- Spanish for 'the conquerors' -- was a JTTS tag team in 1980s WWE. JTTS is an acronym for 'jobber to the stars,' meaning they would defeat local tag teams but anyone of note on the roster could be counted upon to clean their clocks.

Still, their glittering gold full body ensembles certainly turned heads, even if their win-loss record did not. Their gold cloaks were particularly spectacular when viewed live, as this was the day before High Definition televisions.

The Conquistadors were brought back by Edge and Christian, who used the masked personas to gain title shots after they were barred from doing so.

#6 The Road Warriors

From their spiked armor to their wildly painted faces, everything about the Road Warrior's look is pure gold.

Taking their inspiration from the Mel Gibson film of the same name, the Road Warriors ditched their 'leatherman' outfits in favor of these frightening ensembles. Hawk and Animal look like they just stepped out of a nuclear wasteland, and aren't too picky about who they beat up or why.

Which is why their get up is perfect!

#5 Ric Flair

Ric Flair
Ric Flair

Technically, Flair should make this list twice; Once for his fabulous robes, and again for his custom-made, expertly tailored suits!

But since he doesn't wear the suits to the ring, we're focusing on his robes, and they are worthy of all the praise and attention.

Adorned with fashionable touches like feathered sleeves and embossed metallic designs, Ric's robes are just heart-stopping gorgeous, much like the ones worn by Flair's inspiration, Gorgeous George.

Though Flair is actually not the first man to use the Nature Boy gimmick, he is by far the best dressed of the bunch.

#4 Goldust

Golddust
Goldust

"You will never forget the name of (deep inhale) GOLDDUST!"

Never mind his name, it's his outfits we'll never forget! Dustin Runnels developed the Goldust gimmick as a way to step out from his famous father Dusty Rhodes's shadow.

Goldust became an icon unto himself, with antics as bizarre as his get up. Goldust is currently still an active wrestler, and in fact is the longest-tenured wrestler at WWE who is still working matches.

His longevity speaks volumes as to his fashion sense!

#3 Pentagon Jr./Penta OM

Pentagon Jr./Penta OM
Pentagon Jr./Penta OM

Here's a look that's just plain disturbing!

Pentagon Jr./Penta Om -- his name is part of an ongoing legal dispute -- has a fantastic get up that makes him appear as a demonic undead ninja.

His stark skull like mask draws allusions to La Parka, while his pseudo martial arts antics are clearly a reference to famed wrestler Octagon.

Unfortunately, the name and look of Pentagon Jr./Penta Om is in dispute, because AAA claims to have a copyright on the character. The fact that AAA copyrighted the Penta OM name a week after he started using it outside their company definitely seems a little shady.

In any event, the outfit looks damn good!

#2 Ember Moon

Ember Moon
Ember Moon

Ember Moon's outfit is as amazing as her athletic ability. A combination of looks from Lucha Libre to the Undertaker to Mortal Kombat, her unique costume sets her apart as much as her insane agility and charisma.

It takes strong shoulders to carry the NXT women's division after a performance like Asuka's, and Ember Moon proves that she can deliver both in fashion sense and inside the ring.

#1 Asuka

Asuka
Asuka

The Empress of Tomorrow has her own unique fashion sense, designing her ring gear herself. The flowing, Kabuki-inspired robes and painted mask are incredible, especially when she has a long train cascading behind her.

Once she gets to the ring, she still has a great look. The wild, mismatched patterns on her ring gear both titillate and inspire awe, and her lingerie-esque garters add some sex appeal without showing too much skin.

In short, no other wrestler looks like Asuka, which is why she tops this list.
