But, regardless of how much practice these sports entertainers have, there are instances when there is some very real damage that their bodies go through. Most of the time, they're minor enough that they recover quickly, but there are instances when even these seasoned veterans are hurt in their line of work.

While some of these gruesome injuries (a la Seth Rollins) have happened on House Shows, a fair number of them have happened live on WWE programming - either on TV episodes of Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live or on pay-per-views. Today, we're here to look at the latter category.

So, without any further ado, here is our list of the 10 worst WWE injuries caught on camera:

Honorable mention: Tyson Kidd breaks his neck

There's a reason why Samoa Joe has not used the Muscle Buster on the main roster! Rewind to Joe's match against Tyson Kidd and you get your answer.

While it was certainly not Joe's fault, a nasty bump off the Muscle Buster broke Kidd's neck and effectively put him out of commission and, as things stand, may have possibly ended his career.

#10 Finn Balor injures his shoulder at WWE Summerslam 2016

This one happened nearly a year ago at WWE Summerslam 2016 when Finn Balor and Seth Rollins collided for the WWE Universal Championship. Thought Balor won the match to become the inaugural WWE Universal Champion, he was forced to relinquish the belt just a day later due to the injury he suffered during the title bout.

As you can see above, Finn's shoulder gets completed jacked when he's thrown into the barricade by Seth. It would be months before we saw "The Demon King" return to action.

#9 Seth Rollins breaks John Cena's nose

Sticking with Seth Rollins as the cause of injury yet again, and this time, we go back a few years to when The Architect broke John Cena's nose during a match.

The two men were squaring off in a WWE United States Championship match on a July 2015 episode of Monday Night Raw when Rollins' knee connected flush with Big Match John's nose, breaking it in the process. There was a lot of blood involved in the aftermath.

#8 Billy Kidman destroys Chavo Guerrero with a botched Shooting Star Press

Billy Kidman is one of the primary reasons that The Shooting Star Press is outlawed for 99% percent of the roster these days. It was way back in 2004 and the high flyer botched the move during a Smackdown match against Chavo Guerrero, with his knee landing flush on his opponent's head.

Chavo was left with an almighty concussion and wouldn't be seen in a WWE ring for months after the incident.

#7 Brock Lesnar botched Shooting Star Press nearly kills him

What is it with The Shooting Star Press? For their Wrestlemania XIX match, Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle came up with the insane idea of having Brock perform the move in order to elevate the match to an elite level.

Unfortunately, The Beast Incarnate -- phenomenal athlete though he may be -- could not execute it properly and ended up botching the move with nearly disastrous consequences. It's a miracle that he finished the match after a concussion and was even luckier that he didn't break his neck.

#6 Triple H tears his quad

This is one of the more famous entries on this list. Back in 2001, in the middle of his run as a member of the Two Man Power Trip with a heel Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H blew out his quad during a tag team match against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit.

Not only did Hunter finish the match, he told Jericho to lock him in the Walls of Jericho when most men would not have been able to even walk. No matter what you think of the guy, you have to respect how tough he is.

#5 Shawn Michaels' back injury forces him into retirement

From one member of D-Generation X to another, this time we look at Shawn Michaels' back injury which forced him into an early retirement for a number of years before he made his miraculous come back in the 2000s.

It was the 1998 Royal Rumble and Shawn injured his back on a routine spot outside the ring.

Unfortunately, it would completely ravage his back and the Showstopper would be out of commission for years.

#4 Rey Mysterio breaks The Undertaker's face

You would think in a match between these two men, it would be Rey Mysterio who would be at risk of injury but that wasn't the case back in 2010.

On an episode of Smackdown, The Ultimate Underdog botched a routine Springboard Senton.

He landed flush on Taker's face, breaking his nose and giving him a concussion. Who would've thought Rey Mysterio could have injured the legendary Phenom like this?

#3 Goldberg ends Bret Hart's career

Bill Goldberg might be a big deal but it was he who was ultimately responsible for ending the legendary career of Bret "The Hitman" Hart. During a match in WCW, Goldberg botched a routine side kick that left Hart concussed.

As the concussion wasn't diagnosed properly, Hart wrestled on for a few more weeks accumulating more concussions and was forced to retire within no time at all.

It was a cruel end to one of the greatest careers in the history of the business.

#2 Brock Lesnar breaks Bob Holly's neck

I think we can all agree that Hardcore Holly is one tough son of a gun. So, when he gets injured, you know it's gotta be a bad one. And, it was an awfully bad injury when his neck was broken by Brock Lesnar.

This was in the early days of Brock Lesnar's first WWE run and he botched a Powerbomb, landing Holly square on his neck and breaking it in the process.

The injury would take months of rehab and it's only through luck that Holly wasn't paralysed.

#1 Owen Hart paralyses Stone Cold Steve Austin

This is one of the most well-known injuries in professional wrestling. The late Owen Hart botched a Piledriver on Stone Cold Steve Austin that left "The Texas Rattlesnake" paralysed for a few minutes before he was able to move again back at Summerslam 1997.

It was twenty years ago and remains every bit as sickening to watch today as it was back then. The botch took years out of Austin's career and it's a miracle that he could walk after the incident.
