For years, windiness has been one of the funniest phenomena common in any and every human culture.

Be it the court jester’s turgidity and cackling leading to gibber-jabber throughout the otherwise serious ministry, or the modern-day stand-up comedian with their run-of-the-mill ‘fart joke’ -- flatulence has been a universally hilarious topic which, upon being broached, serves to render people both uncomfortable as well as cachinnating.

Well, the WWE isn’t bereft of flatulence-inspired gimmicks/segments either, with the Natalya farting storyline being its most infamous venture in the sphere of twaddle. Today we look at a few popular pro-wrestlers who’re as egregious for passing gas in the ring, as they are for their wrestling skills.

#10 CM Punk

CM Punk once famously lost control of his bowels inside the squared circle during a match against Dean Ambrose on SmackDown back in 2013. Bear in mind, that this is the very match which saw the referee pick up a piece of Punk’s body waste -- that had slipped out of his trunks -- and throw it out of the ring.

Well, the story goes that Punk was on a Z-Pak (antibiotics) prescribed for a staph infection, with the medication known for causing patients an upset stomach. It goes without saying that once one does the math, Punk had the odds stacked against him in this situation right from the get-go.

Apparently, Punk’s release of gas was followed up by him emptying his bowels into his trunks in the middle of the ring. The current UFC fighter often speaks about his tummy issues during the time he was on antibiotics back in the WWE. And this is not even mentioning his nefarious in-ring breezy habits -- something we’ll discuss later…

#9 Big Show

The Big Show is well-known in the professional wrestling community for his work ethic and love toward the business. Besides, the World’s Largest Athlete is also one of the most notorious at the breezy business -- that is if you are to believe The Miz.

In reference to the Giant’s flatulence, The Miz revealed on an edition of the Alleged podcast, that Big Show is pretty nasty as regards flatulence.

He explained that the 7-foot-plus behemoth would often crack a rat during a match, and considering that the performers breathe heavy due to the rigorousness of the wrestling match, the stench would have an intense effect on his co-workers’ breathing inside the squared circle.

Furthermore, yet another prank that Big Show is said to have pulled on several occasions is when he lets one rip just before exiting an elevator. Well, one has to be wary of elevators if one happens to be the WWE legend’s neighbour!

#8 Rikishi

This one is particularly disturbing, to say the least. Given the fact that Rikishi’s signature move is the ‘Stinkface’, that sees him rub his backside against the face of a downed opponent who’s placed with his head resting on the second turnbuckle; one’s heart goes out to his ahem… ’victims’.

Speaking of which, instances of Rikishi’s windiness can indeed be heard loud and clear (no pun intended), especially in his matches against William Regal and Booker T. Besides, his longest Stinkface ever -- the one he delivered to the ‘Road Dogg’ Jesse James -- is said to have had the most bombastic (again, no pun intended) effect ever.

Furthermore, Rikishi’s infamous Stinkface to Trish Stratus is also one of the craziest examples of the Samoan powerhouse’s flatulence -- something which visibly left the connoisseur of Stratusfaction distraught.

#7 Bret Hart

"The Hitman" truly is one of the best there is, best there was and best there ever will be. However, his match against Bam Bam Bigelow is widely remembered for a different reason altogether.

As per the late-Bigelow’s account, the aforementioned match against Bret was one of his best ever, but the final sequence which saw the latter roll up Bam Bam for the pin, also had Hart rip a loud one. Hart had his opponent's face buried between his legs when the unfortunate transgression transpired.

Both Hart and Bigelow addressed the goof-up multiple times in interviews that followed. Speaking of which, Hart’s nephew, reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion Natalya Neidhart, infamously adopted a farting gimmick a few years ago. Perhaps an homage to her uncle… perhaps!

#6 Edge

Back in 2009, WWE referee Marty Elias opened up not only on CM Punk’s in-ring windiness, but also on that of a former Punk opponent… none other than WWE Hall of Famer Edge.

According to Elias, Edge much like Punk, was notorious for cracking considerably enormous farts, while looking at him with an innocent smile on his face. The WWE referee revealed that both the "Rated-R Superstar" and Punk have pulled off this, largely intentional gag on him multiple times while wrestling in the WWE.

Given Punk’s history of tummy issues inside the ring, and Edge’s propensity to perpetuate a more ‘Rated-R’ brand of humour, Elias’ account doesn’t seem too much out of the realm of possibility. Up next is one of the most ruthless enforcers of in-ring windiness!

#5 Tommy Dreamer

The ECW legend, House of Hardcore pioneer, and so much more -- Tommy Dreamer is one of the most likeable performers in the sport. Additionally, the Extreme Superstar is well-known for his viciousness when it comes to toilet humour.

Dreamer once narrated an incident which transpired when he wrestled "The World’s Strongest Man" Mark Henry. The latter dished out a World’s Strongest Slam on the ECW legend, which caused Dreamer to let go of the contents of his stomach -- seemingly accompanied by some significant liquid windiness.

Dreamer checked his trunks in the shower following the match, and needless to say, they were… well, soiled. But the beloved Hardcore legend didn’t stop at that! He followed it up with an infamous Tweet about engaging in some funny, breezy business on an aeroplane trip, which once again ended with him defecating in his pants.

#4 Mae Young

This legendary wrestler, unfortunately, passed away a while back, but the stories surrounding her wild and unpredictable odyssey in the sport live on nonetheless.

Well into her 70s, Young once took a powerbomb through the table, courtesy Bully Ray aka Bubba Ray Dudley. As per Bubba’s account of the spot, Mae specifically requested him to slam her just as he would the male wrestlers ergo not to take it light on her.

Bubba obliged and put her through the table, however, Young cracked a fart that -- as per his interview with TMZ -- rippled right through his nether regions. In fact, the WWE and TNA veteran asserted it’s stench to be so horrifying that he couldn’t find the courage to even look at her after that.

#3 John Cena

John Cena is a thorough professional and an extremely hard-working individual. However, "The Leader of the Cenation" isn’t infallible to the call of nature.

Speaking of answering nature’s call, the task becomes exceedingly tough when one finds the need to do so, in the midst of a work environment. Cena once experienced a serious bout of food poisoning during a match against Scott Steiner.

Being the pro that he is, Cena went under the ring, both vomiting and soiling himself beneath the squared circle, only to return to the ring and complete his segment.

Given the years of entertainment that "The Champ" has provided us, it’d be safe to say that he ought to be accorded the privilege of letting one rip under such daunting circumstances.

#2 Dusty Rhodes

The craziest stories about flatulence and incontinence in professional wrestling often involve "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. The following incident was narrated by veteran wrestler John Nord.

Apparently, back in 1984, Nord wrestled Rhodes in a match that went fairly normal up until the very end. The former had been instructed to pick Rhodes up and deliver a Piledriver on him, so as to finish the bout.

However, Nord failed to launch Rhodes’ heavy body upside down, hence pulled the latter’s rear and his singlet, literally giving the American Dream a wedgie. Dusty was known to use ‘mufflers’—a giant roll of toilet paper, padded up and stuffed into his underpants in order to prevent the crowd from hearing his flatulence as well as to keep his refuse from spilling out of his trunks.

Nord publicly revealed this in an interview years after the incident transpired, recalling that after the aforementioned wedgie, Dusty informed him that his ‘muffler’ fell out.

Although Nord delivered the move and finished the match, he was scarred for life, as the muffler which lay in the middle of the ring contained a semi-liquid substance made up of different shades of brown, yellow and red.

#1 Andre The Giant

Could there possibly have been anyone else atop this list? Andre The Giant was notorious back in the day, for not only his heavy drinking but also his flatulence and incompetence when it came to controlling his bowels.

The Giant’s drinking habit served to considerably accentuate his windiness and haywire bowel movements. Although multiple wrestlers have fallen victim to the late-Giant’s flatulence, it was Bad News Brown who got the absolute worst of it.

Back in the old WWF, Brown wrestled with Andre and the behemoth laid Brown near the turnbuckle and delivered a sit-down splash on him.

Unfortunately, Andre accidentally relieved himself at the end of the move, as a result of which Brown was covered in layers of brown (no pun intended) and slimy human refuse. He was immediately rushed back to the showers, and what followed was utter pandemonium and emotional outbursts backstage.

Regardless, these instances simply serve to show us that our beloved wrestlers -- irrespective of how gritty they may be -- are just as human as the rest of us.
