Wrestling is a career that doesn't have a very long shelf life. There are only a select number of superstars who enjoy a lengthy career in the ring, while others are not so lucky.

Injuries, bad decisions and the company giving up on a character are all things that mean that a Superstar is forced out of the company early, which could be why so many WWE stars ensure that they have a backup plan in place while they are still performing.

Over the past few years, a number of stars have hinted at retirement but not officially announced it. It seems that right now, there are already several current and former Superstars who have plans in place for what they want to do with all that free time when they finally hang up their wrestling boots.

#7 AJ Styles - Family man

AJ Styles is considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world right now and it could be argued that he is in the best form of his career, but that hasn't stopped 'The Phenomenal One" from sharing the fact that he hopes to retire from the business in the near future.

AJ has been in the business now for almost two decades and in that time, he and his wife have welcomed four children. AJ has missed some important moments in his children's lives over the past few years and it seems that now he is open to spending more time with his family while they're still young.

Shawn Michaels retired for the same reason back at WrestleMania 26 when he realized that his son was halfway to 18 and he would be leaving home before he knew it. AJ has seemingly been around the business for as long as many fans can remember, so perhaps it is the time that he had some private moments with his family and said goodbye to his public life.

Chris Jericho has actually been quite lucky with his career since the companies he has worked with have been happy to work around his commitments as a musician. Jericho has been touring with his band Fozzy regularly over the past few years.

Jericho is another star who has a family waiting for him at home and it seems that when his career finally comes to an end, he would have much more time to see his family but still continue to make music. The years of wrestling will finally take their toll on Jericho's body as he continues to age, but he can continue to make music for as long as he wants, so it seems that this is what he plans to do.

Rhyno may be one half of the inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions, but he has also created a career for himself outside of the squared circle. The former ECW star ran for the Michigan House of Representatives back in 2016 but lost the election in November to Abdullah Hammoud by a margin of more than 8,000 votes.

This was Rhyno's first setback as a politician but it seems that it is a career that he intends to continue to pursue, and even has the approval and support of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Vince's wife Linda has made a successful career for herself in politics and could help Rhyno to continue to pursue this when his wrestling career is finally considered to be over.

It's hard to believe that Jeff Hardy will ever officially retire from the ring, the multi-time Tag Team Champion has dedicated his life to the business and on more than one occasion, definitely risked it as well.

Outside of WWE, Jeff has several other interests, including art, which he regularly shows off when he paints his face for matches. Is he also part of a band called Peroxwhy?Gen, the band has already released two albums with their most recent being back in 2015.

Hardy also opened his own website called JeffHardyBrand.com a few years ago and it seems that Hardy will continue to run this alongside his brother as well as make music and paint. Hardy is a very talented artistically, so he has a lot of things that he could spend his spare time doing when wrestling is off the table.

Daniel Bryan was forced to announce his retirement from in-ring competition back in 2016 because WWE doctors refused to clear him to return to the ring. Thankfully, he did return in March 2018 and has even gone on to win the WWE Championship and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship upon his return.

However, Bryan can't wrestle forever and it seems that with his wife's plans to have a large family, Bryan has to have a plan B.

Bryan talked about how much he loved gardening on an episode of Total Bellas before stating that when he walks into the sunset, he hopes to start his own Youtube channel dedicated to this passion. It's definitely something that is the complete opposite of wrestling.

Mickie is a wife and mother now and at the age of 40, she is probably starting to think about her life outside of the ring. Mickie grew up visiting her grandmother's horse farm and has always said that when her career in wrestling is finished, she wants to run her own farm and become an equine trainer. Mickie already owns horses and it seems that she wants to teach other people how to train and keep the thoroughbred animals.
